For me it bugged out and wouldn't finish. The timer wrapped up, disappeared completely no prompt or anything, and...nothing. the fight continued and a random undead that 'conveniently' resisted my Thunder arrow to knock it into the lake destroyed the portal.
I unintalled the game at that point. So many questionable and garbage mechanics in this game and then the actual lie from this quest. I couldn't bother anymore.
Instead, he lights himself up and I tried running away so we could retreat. It does say he's "temporarily hostile" so hopefully I would have been able to kiss and make up later. Except it only takes two turns for him to just die from the fire. Gotta do the whole battle over again.
Annoying asf. This time I'll just save the last round of the fight.
AoE spells help, but I don't think I used anything bigger than Entangle and Cloud of Daggers.
Oddly though when the timer ran out there were still mobs alive but they vanished when he came back through. Expected him to walk into a fight and die but thankfully not.
