does it feel a bit lacking? is there a lot of gear to help with that or that a bit lacking too?
After a while monk transitions into a more CC oriented barbarian with more movement speed, more AC but less health and about the same damage. The class seems to scale well into late-game. I'm currently level 9 and every level monk starts to deal more damage than barbarian. Good perception, dexterity and wisdom - all three of which are invaluable in this game.
You can also play them as a stealth class, but I never tried because that's boring.
I have a shadow monk on my second playthrouhg, and monks are huge damage dealers but very susceptible to damage, so glass cannons
Monk is pretty good, and multiclass well with some classes like paladin. Druid was a bit disappointing to me, specially because we can shapeshift with any class into a displacer beast with Illithid powers .
In the end of the day, I believe most people fluctuate to CHA based characters so their character can be the party face.
I really wish Wizards would take a que from Pathfinder 2e monks and implement something similar to their stance mechanic as depending what stance you use in that game it either negates the need to have one of the stats or adds awesome passives on (heck their monk doesn't even need wisdom unless they want to do use ki to mimic other classes spells, even dropping it entirely it does excellent just beating stuff to death and being a grappling monster)
How so? They seem fairly "average" with their needs; cha, str and int dump. Dex main, Wis second, Con whatever you have left.
That's the beauty of multi class.
Druid 7 + colossus slayer ranger 5 gets you multi attack and an extra d8 once per turn.
Rough start, but gets a lot better.
He does more damage unarmed than with the legendary mace from the monastery.
He does 3 attacks per turn and outdamages my 2-hand fighter while also being more consistent.
He can cc well enough, I use 6 "prone" attacks per short rest.
I wanted to try more melee stuff, but 3 of them is too many and there's no way I respec my monk, he's carrying.
Deadly. He hasn't gone down once.
My Fighter hasn't gone down yet, either.
The other two party members have gone down, but not died yet.
