what was that all about
There are far more oppressive religions than Christianity and Islam in this setting, lmao. Like half of them are about being as edgy and self-hating as possible.
In spite of my qualms about Gale (I was just trying to be a bro with him and it got a bit... sketchy) overall once you move passed the scene Gale is a pretty legit bro. And Lae'Zel becomes a little more relatable once you see how her own tribe is treating her.
At the end of the day if Larian Studios had to choose between making all characters available to the player, or some characters not available to the player, I prefer for them to choose the former. So I can only fault them so much for giving the player more options in the game.
Still, I'd prefer if the game allowed you to signal it that you were more interested in one party member (romantically) over the other and adapted to you that way. As a straight dude, the relationships you have with straight men are very different than the relationships you have with gay/bi men and that definitely has an effect on how the relationship is perceived, so just having all characters want you in a romantic relationship definitely changes the dynamic you experience between the characters.
That being said it is pretty obvious that were it not for the social taboos generated by religion most people would ♥♥♥♥ who they wanted when they wanted. Hence why as organized religion is falling out with the new gens and the world is less hateful more people are deciding on the bi tag.
Playersexual is more akin to a quantum state - it collapses at the point you, the player, determine which direction it should take.
If you romance a same sex character, they are "gay".
If you romance an opposite sex character, they are "straight".
There are actually no truly bisexual characters in BG3, as a bisexual is a person who is attracted to both sexes.
But the romanceable characters in BG3 are definitelynattracted to onevsex or the other - it just happens to bevwhatever your sex is, if you choose to romance them.
