Why Can't We Be Friends?

Really wish there was a middle-of-the-road relationship with your companions.

Had really high affinity with Gale, and one night, invited me to a romantic shag under the stars. As a straight male char, it was a tad uncomfortable. Can't we just be friends?

And they're all like that. Share some background with each other, help a kitten out of a tree, and they all want your junk. I guess it's the true D&D experience, when you think about it. Just wish I could be bros with some of the male chars, without it getting... uncomfortable.

- edit: A lot of people are disregarding my entire opinion by saying I could pick other options, and everything is cool. Yes, and those were the options I picked, and you could STILL cut the 'sexual tension' with a knife. Not everyone is super bi. Some people like personal space.

Gotta admit, there is a valid complaint to made. I'm personally queer af, and I haven't delved much at all into BG3's romance system (beyond Astarion), yet...but, I also get that some players want platonic dynamics with other characters. Whether asexual, or straight and wanting to avoid the awkwardness of turning down a character of the same sex, it's a tricky system that has its own flaws.

Not really sure how improvements could be made, but I do feel there is need for perhaps some form of balance to the approval system; giving equal measure of "platonic friendship" options as well as "romantic" ones.

Someone in another thread pointed out that an option could be included in character creation to set your orientation. Sims 4 does this to simplify things in game.

There seems to be no shortage of opinion on this topic, but it seems to me the whole issue could have been easily avoided. Simply make the advances so that they are initiated ONLY by the player. That's it...you are back in control and the gay stuff is still there for those who want it, but not forced upon those who don't...

There is. I've had it with Gale for the entire game. Shot him down when he tried getting initmate with the little magic trick and he's not flirted with me since.

Even Astarion who I did bang once but ultimately said no to is now just that: A good buddy.

It's always Very romantic, open minded and encouraging or cold AF.
If you don''t pick cold AF then there's a second option of Yes let's do it, polite no and changed my mind cold AF.

At this point if Larian did anything to change it I think just as many people would be screaming about the change. People like to fight. If that were the point then it would seem they might have done it just to distract people from the game's shortcomings and divert attention from any issues.

Literally just did this scene and he didn't try to ♥♥♥♥ me, he just wanted someone to sit with him and chat about his impending decisions. you definitely picked options to go for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I've not ♥♥♥♥♥♥ a single guy in my run so far and theyre all friendly with me. Seems like your issue is you are picking the lets ♥♥♥♥ options.

Same scene happened to me. He just wanted me to be there to comfort him. No shaggging or anything.
