[SPOILERS] The forge...
Did anyone else feel kinda dumb trying to brute force this fight before figuring out the obvious solution?

Define obvious, because the fight relocates your party and you're against a single foe. That foe can literally block the object you need to interact with and why would you think to rotate the camera to see every enemy's position when... there's one enemy. Starting in melee range and kinda hard to miss. It's a fight that would work much better on tabletop where you'd see the whole map.

Well, we'd already seen the hammer at work (it's literally required), and inspecting the construct reveals it's weak to bludgeoning damage. The construct will also beeline for the last character that damaged it, allowing you to control its position to some degree.

Put all that together and it's one of those "how did I not see this before?" things that should have been obvious from the start.

Hammer isn't required at all. You can flood the place with lava again and just beat it to death with your regular weapons.

I am well aware and nearly defeated it like that. However, it's the easiest way to win (and seems to be the "intended" way to beat it).

I literally killed him in 2 turns without using whatever object you guys are talking about.

I right clicked the boss and clicked examine, saw he was vulnerable to bludgeoning, took an action putting a hammer on my level 6 Barbarian whom I hasted with my Wizard.

I then proceeded to literally solo the boss in 1.5 turns basically only with my barb, who absolutely slammed the boss.

Examine button is your friend guys.

How can you just flip from "It's required" to "I'm well aware [it isn't required]"?

Pretty easy fight for me without even crushing him. I just triangled him, put one char on the valve and relentlessly attacked him.

His slam doesnt do much damage, and his single target does like 1/3 hp so plenty of time to heal if even close to danger.

Mind you im on medium/'balanced' difficulty + level 6 party atm.

I didnt us the hammer. I got dual morning stars (4 attacks), a great hammer + action surge (4 attacks), light hammers (4 attacks), and buffing cleric. He went down in flames in 3 turns :D

I killed it with my backpack of food

Slight miscommunication there. I meant you are required to use the hammer before the platform drops (i.e.: before the fight starts). So the player is already aware that the hammer exists, what it does, where it is, and which lever activates it.
Paladin, Mace/Warhammer, DIVINE SMITE MF.
But seriosuly, just equip your meleecharacter with a good warhammer while keeping the guardian molten and its quite easy.

Yes and no. If you lure the golem to the amboss it spawns 4 mephits = makes the fight harder and he just lose ~ 33-40% hp which means you would need to repeat it at least one time.

If you just gather your people right at the gate, position a fighter with haste + hammer weapon you can smash the golem in 2-3 rounds quite safe and repeatable.

They're just Mephits (low HP) and they all spawn on the same corner of the map. Easy enough to get them with ranged attacks while the golem is down.

it annoys me when people just suggest not using strategy because they can just overlevel it and stomp it.. like yea.. you have a lvl 6 barb probably with speed pots attacking 5 times a turn good for you, nobody cares.
