Gym Eternal Protector takes no damage. [Spoilers]

I have been trying to fight Grym eternal protector in the forge. I am aware of that you must make it super-heated with the lava and crush him with the forge hammer itself. However, My game seems to be bugged and when I crush it, it loses the super heated status and takes zero damage. It does not matter it I reload my save I am stuck. Has anyone else experience this?

You can kill him without the big hammer, there is even an achievement for it. He is weak to bludgeoning damage so just kit out your party with mauls, clubs, anything that does bludgeoning and just wail on him.

This. Even a weak hammer can deal a bunch of damage since it's weak to them.
