DX11 or Vulcan
I have an RX 6900 XT and just got the game. I have played on Vulcan and had a few crashes (before Hotfix 2). Does DX11 improve over Vulcan at all on an AMD GPU?

DX11, doesnt matter if you got AMD or Nvidia. DX11 is simply better, faster and uses less power.

Vulkan

I have an RX 6650 XT and during EA I used vulcan exclusively because it just ran a lot better for me.

Since the full release, though, I have had much better luck with DX11. I've had a single crash in probably 40-50 hours and it's completely smooth on max settings. Vulcan stuttered a lot when moving the camera and felt jittery and un-smooth most of the time. It was playable, but the difference was very noticeable.

But that was just my own experience, it can vary for everyone so use both for a bit and see which works best.

I was getting screen tearing on Vulcan. Switched to DX11 and my issue went away. So I'm saying DX11.

been using vulcan, no issues at all

A lot of people will tell you Vulkan is better. However, throughout EA and since release, selecting Vulkan just crashes the game. So i have to use DX.

Used Vulkan during Early Access but seems in 1.0 that Dx11 works better, atleast for me.

for me when i play in big city or place with a lot of fire i use vulcan coz stable 60 fps all fine, but when i was in undergaound there was small glich with vulcan, there i swap for dx11, and all good, but again with dx11 many spots with drop fps while with vulcan allways 60 fps on ultra settings gpu temp with vulcan 62 with dx11 59 so same

Normally Vulcan is much better than DX11 if it is implement the right way. Vulcan has a much slimmer code, but is very specific. DX11 on the other hand is more suitable for everything, but because it has much more code, it's normally slower.

If you have no clue what to do, just use Vulcan first and if you have any graphical problems, use DX11.

i found DX11 to be better. But try both maybe your config will work better with vulcan.

Currently Vulkan is very unstable and crashes a lot for now I recommend using DX11 since Vulkan implementation causes so many crashes way more than DX11. Try Vulkan first and see if its smooth if you crash a lot then move to DX11. At least for this game both seem to dish out the same performance for a 7900XTX as per Techpowerup benchmarks.

No one can actually answer that for you, because which is better is very much dependent on your rig. Vulkan is better for me, it gives a smoother more consistent framerate no matter what, and I don't have any issues at all (no crashes, no visual glitches, etc). Other people, however, do have those issues with Vulkan, so for them DX11 is better.

I will also say, if you have an HDR monitor and want to use HDR, DX11 is the choice you want. I have read that HDR doesn't work with Vulkan in BG3.

DX 11 should always be better just like dx12 should always be the best. But it depends on the game and hardware, Sometimes what should be better isnt actually better. Dx11 from what I gather is over all the best though here for performance.

The difference is essentially impossible to perceive performance wise.

The only reason to choose one over the other is if you're having game crashes or other issues. Vulkan has a history in this game of causing crashes so you may do better with DX11. Other than that it doesn't matter.

The devil is in the detail.
Vulcan is almost 10 fps higher when considering minimum fps numbers. At least for my gpu and resolution.

I would say that i have noticed less hitching with vulcan but I have noticed a strange bug that there is sometimes a tiny flickering black square in the right hand corner of the screen with Vulcan. There is others posts around this bug on the forums.

Overall I still Vulcan for the higher minimum fps numbers.
