Why does Sentinel only SOMETIMES work?
There's nothing stating there's a chance for it to activate. Feels like a waste of a feat more and more it doesn't do its job.

You properly used your reaction for something else already - you only have one per turn

Also if you happen to be a moon druid (it's a rather popular feat choice for them in 5e) the reaction doesn't work when you're wild shaped.

I had a suspension that may be the case, but when I tested the theory by not using reckless attack in the same turn. It didn't change how seemingly random sentinel activated.

You can only react once per turn in DnD so that may be why you are under the impression that it does not always work.
With that said, Sentinel is a great feat but it's situational. In my opinion there are much better feats to be picked than this.

Which would be fine if my character reacted at all. But when an ally gets attacked, NOPE, no sentinel. I refrain from using Reckless Attack, still no Sentinel when an ally is attacked. The allies are hugging my character with how close my character is to them BTW.

>I rage. Bonus action gone.
>I get close without dash.
>I attack with a normal attack. Main action gone.
>I attack again with Extra Attack activated.
>End my turn.
>Ally near me gets meleed and I sit there like an idiot not reacting to what just happened.

Next turn:
>I'm still close. I attack with a normal attack.
> I hit em' again.
> I use frenzied strike to hit em' again.
> End my turn
> Ally near me gets meleed and I sit there like an idiot not reacting to what just happened again.

Why is that? Where is it going wrong?

I looked on the wiki if the ally being attacked also has the feat then you can't attack the attacking creature using the feat
