Throwing weapons count as unarmed weapons too

I got a nice spear that comes back to me. With aoe dmg when thrown. What i found out, if you use monk stuff, like 1d4 extra dmg when unarmed, it will work with the thrown weapon. Because when you hit an enemy, at that moment you are unarmed.
But you have to have the weapon in your mainhand when you throw it. So its kinda useful for the one special spear only.
