Owlbear Cub help please

So, I found out that you can end up recruiting the owlbear cub to your camp with certain choices. However I think I may have messed this up. I killed the mother and spared the cub, from what I gather it is supposed to be captured by the goblins afterwards. I went to the goblin camp and got myself inside looking for Halsin but I did not explore before going inside so I missed the chicken chase section. I ended up killing everyone inside after not finding Halsin and went outside and killed everything there. I progressed the story by doing Lae-zel's quest stuff in the Mountain Pass. And then eventually found out that I could have recruited the cub by giving it my scent after the chicken chase or convincing the goblin to let it go.

I went back to the goblin camp and did not see the cub, I went back to the cave and found the dead mother but no cub. Is there still a way to recruit the owlbear cub in this campaign or am I totally screwed.

it will show up in your camp later on thats what happen to me but i killed the all the goblin then i go and kill the owl mother, later he showed up in my camp by himself just sleep a couple night and wait for him to show up

i didn't do the chicken stuff...but when i came back to that area after killing bosses, he was just standing there. i talked to him and he eventually showed up at my camp.

you didn't happen to kill him during fighting..with an spell or something?

I don’t think so, I went back to the goblin camp and I didn’t see any body if the cub at least.

Awww now I feel bad for killing it.

You have to do long rests. For me it showed up even so I did the owlbear cave AFTER I annihilated the goblins (-> no cub imprisoned by goblins as it was still with his mother to that time). It now happily runs around my camp & even bond with the dog.

I killed the mom first, then killed the goblin camp. I didn’t see the owlbear in the camp exterior during the fight so I don’t know where the cub is. He’s not there after going back after I went to the mountain pass and had a couple of long tests there. And he’s not back in the cave either with the mom.

I recruited him after taking down the leaders inside. When I went outside the camp aggro'd me and I was able to talk to him(with speak with animals active) and give him my scent. I didn't do the chicken chase game beforehand.
