I went sorcerer and have slaughtered almost everyone who's stood in my way of obtaining more power while rescuing the innocent.
I gave up on doing Dark Urge. Not my thing.
The class really doesnt matter.
If you resist you wont get anything that changes your gameplay.
And if you dont.
You get rewards that make you good at killing regardless of class.
Tho i say this to all who dont know what to play:
Go druid.
Druids are a good class that can do everything.
It let you learn what you like and make your next class something that focus on what you love.
For me, I made a ranger hunter. It fits my idea of a "good" character with the dark urge, who kills as a profession but doesn't really understand why. Assassin is also a natural fit, but I don't like playing rogue characters. Fighter works well for a DU backstory, as does vengeance paladin who can't seem to stop himself/herself from dipping into oath breaker.
Those are just suggestions. Pick something you like and create a back story for it. That's part of the fun of D&D.
This is how I endes up with a 3rd level Fighter (Champion) Forest Gnome who is about to multiclass into a Storm Sorcerer.
I put 16 into both Str and Cha (so I would deal maximum dmg with both spells as well as melee attacks, but also excel in Shoving fools off cliffs, which seems like a very Dark Urgey thing to do, and the extra jump distance is awesome as well.
I intend to go all lightning/cold dmg as a Storm Sorcerer and get Palpatinie on their ass, the Champion levels are just for the increased crit threat and heavy armor proficiency. Apply Wet condition, then crit with ligjtning damage for instant one hit smites.
I'm going to end up in plate mail with a shield, breaking the sky itself to incinerate everything in my way.
Oh, and Action Surge (for 2x leveled spell or more per turn) doesn't hurt either.
