Possible to skip romance altogether?
All the talk about romance in this game makes me think that this is a MASSIVE part of the game and if I don't romance anybody I miss out on a bigbig portion of the game.

But I HATE romance in games. I find it highly cringe and I really don't want it.

So what will I miss if I don't romance anybody at all? Is it even possible? Or do I have to romance someone in order to achieve certain points in the story? Will I miss out on exp or good loot?

Nope, you can keep rejecting the gay advances but they are coming all the same. At least Bioware didnt throw the gay at me until I clearly flagged I wanted it.

Be in touch with your inner bear.

You are either gay or reject them harshly.
Unable to be friends with companions, just drink a pint with a bro-mage at a tavern and such.

Great design! (no)

Since nobody has given you a truthful answer yet, you can just tell them that you're not interested, and they never bother you about it anymore.

You don't lose out on any non-romance content either, since the characters don't disapprove your rejection, and take it in an understanding way.

Yes sometimes you will say something that causes the npc to think your interested, but you can say no it will never be forced on you, and alternatively never talk to the NPCs they can't flirt with you if you never engage them at camp lol

This is the answer.

People complaining about choices they consciously made are whinging for the sake of having something to whinge about.

It's completely possible to avoid romances but you have to directly tell the companions you're not interested when they hint at it.

It's overblown by a weird game of telephone and culture warriors who overreact to everything. You can easily just refuse when characters make advances on you.

Just don;t recruit them to begin with, leave them standing where they are as you can get hirelings that are easily just as strong.

OP I personally don't have an issue. As mentioned, just choose the not interested option in the conversation. Even before that, chose conversation options that don't flatter.
BTW, I find this aspect of the game realistic in that you all share the same events, travel as a team, no tv or wifi lol, what is there to do in camp but get close to each other.

Come to think of it, most of my camping trips when i was younger had us pretty much sleeping with someone.

Thank you for your answers!
I want to make very clear that I 100% approve of Larians decision to give us *all* the options! It is romance in general I don't like. But if there is romance, I want to see every possible aspect of it. I just don't want to make use of it. ;)
So thanks again a lot! :)
yeah any time they come onto you you can just say no and it basically won't come up again. there is no penalty for doing so. people calling it a harsh rejection just take romantic rejection poorly in real life

Sure there is, don't talk to your companions.

edit:
Also, why buy a game that has romance in it, if you aren't interested in the romance element? Games have ratings, tags, and descriptions for a reason after all.

So anyone who doesn't agree with you is irrational and overreacting. I see...that must be the correct and open-minded point of view then...heh...

Completely wrong, you are able to be friends

Because I am a big fan of CRPGs, I played the first 2 parts when they came out and therefore I don't want to miss out on BG3, of course. It is possible to like a game but not a certain part of it. If I would buy only games which I like every part of, I would not play games at all.

Also, the question about romance came up in my mind after I bought BG3 already. I seems to be almost the only aspect everyone is talking about and so I wanted to know how big of an aspect it really is.
