Cannot One-Hand versatile weapons when no other weapon equiped in the other hand?
So, pretty much it is that I'm playing a Bard College of the Swords, and got a Longsword that I rather one-hand than two-hand, but there doesn't seem to be any option to choose which I want, since I've got Dueling with my bard feature. Is there a way to only wield the weapon in one hand without the need of equiping another weapon or shield? If not, there should be and option to allow you to do so.

I am not 100% sure, but in this game it seems versatile weapons. Longswords, quarterstaffs, spears etc.. will use the 2H dmg die, unless you have something else in your offhand. IE: a shield. So do with that what you will. So no, but thats the entire point of having a "Versatile weapon.. Why would you want to use it one handed, and handicap yourself losing damage.. That makes no sense

Yeah it's kind on an odd choice to make every Versatile weapon auto 2h. I'm definitely not a fan.

Versatile weapons by design are supposed to give you the *option* whether to 1h or 2h. You're talking about Dual Wielding, the OP is talking about the Duelling Fighting Style Swords Bards get access to, which relies on one-handing a weapon.

What I found frustrating is that I cant have a one hander and a torch

In 5e, Dueling works with Versatile weapons, but Larian put in the weird additional caveat that the weapon can't be Versatile. The extra 2 damage from Dueling ends up being the same damage in the end.
Yeah, we've been asking Larian to.fix this for three years.

Exactly.

Because, Dueling lets me do for example 1d8+6 with one hand rather than 1d10+4, lower die, yes, but one does a minum of 7 damage, the other does 5. Yes, crits are a thing and it just duplicates the die, but I don't really expect them since I don't build into them.

it makes plenty of sense if you're a monk that wants to scale dex instead of str. 2h staff screws up the calculation because the game defines "monk weapon" as any proficient weapon that's not 2h. ergo, versatile = borked

My paladin wielding a longsword gets the +2 damage bonus as long as he's wearing a shield in the other hand.

The description for Dueling is still a little awkward but I'm guessing it doesn't mean "it can't be Versatile ever" and is supposed to mean "can't be a versatile weapon held in two hands".
