Camera Issues - Any Fix?
Hey folks.

I have really been enjoying this game so far, but I am getting really annoyed by how the camera works. In the Underdark right now there are countless times where I can't even look at the ground below me, and the only way I can even look "straight ahead" is to zoom down to face level with my characters. In particular, I wanted to look down outside of the Wizard's Tower in the Underdark (I apologize if that in itself is a spoiler), but it is so far below from the top levels that looking down basically is impossible.

Also, whenever I am going uphill at all I never can see far ahead of me at all because the camera can't look at any angle but straight ahead at most.

I mostly have been able to work around this issue, but in practice the camera in this game has been very frustrating to use and has lots of situations where you literally cannot rotate it to spot things that should be in clear view.

This wouldn't be an issue in most similar games, but this game has a ton of verticality to its areas. I enjoy that aspect of the game, but a traditional top-down view needs more flexibility if we're going to have such vertical spaces.

Is there a mod or any settings option or the like that can make the camera a bit more flexible? I'm not asking to be able to zoom it an unlimited distance away or such - I just want to be able to look down or look up without needing to wrestle with the camera zooming all over the place just to get the optimal spot where I can just barely see what I want to see.

Bump.

Seems like this forum is too active right now for people to have seen my post, if nobody responds now I'll maybe just create a new thread in the future at some point.

The camera easily is the most frustrating aspect of this game so far, especially in underground areas, and I just was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a fix or might know why the developers chose to make it so limited despite the world having so many vertical spaces.

Having the same issue here. Its workable but not ideal. Id love to see this fixed.

Glad to see I'm not the only one.

It wasn't a big deal to have a somewhat limited camera in Divinity: Original Sin 1 or 2, or for that matter in most "cRPGs" of this nature.

But the difference is that this game is far more vertical than these games tend to be. In the Underdark in particular where I just spent a lot of time before leaving (just finally got out of "Act 1"), there are times where you might have to climb up or down massive distances. Yet you cannot even look where you need to go without a lot of struggling in such cases - you need to basically wrestle with the camera and use the map and pray you can figure it out.

All of this would be fixed if they simply changed the camera to be a more free-floating camera and allowed you to adjust its height, or they made you able to look further up and down.

There aren't even any settings for the camera at all... These developers have so many gaps in their work. It took them 3 years to release a game without custom controller mappings or camera options

Honestly it just feels like a design oversight. The game is mostly excellent in my opinion after having finished it, but the developers clearly didn't consider the implications of a "classic ARPG camera in the sky" camera style with levels that have significant elevation changes.

You can zoom in to an extent, but there are many times where the camera limitations mean you have to wrestle the camera to do what you want. For example: if you want to teleport or fly up somewhere, you have to hope the camera changes to that level as you move it around because there's no way to look "up" in this game. There are many times where the camera has refused to change to the level I want it to when I am on a different level, making targeting or movement annoying to say the least. There also have been times (like in the Underdark magic tower) where trying to look down was such a chore. I used feather fall to jump down, but had to struggle immensely with the camera just to be able to see the "ground" far below the tower.

I can't fathom myself playing without these camera fixes and improvements.

Nice find, thanks for sharing it. I'll have to give that a try; it looks like what I want.
Thank holy hell I'm not the only one having panic attacks over the worst camera controls In any game in all of human history. The camera alone, makes this game unplayable and I won't touch it until I find a camera fix, or until one company can just release a game with no bugs or ♥♥♥♥♥♥ features like this or at least patch them out after being out in the wild for, idk, years now.

If you have only one mod to install, this is the one. That's the main reason why I downgraded to the previous patch at the time I played BG3 (since than, I know the mod has been updated.)

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
