Rolling constant 1's

I'm trying to get the brain with legs. I'm not sure what is happening, but I keep rolling 1's. It's either at the first check to see what is going on or, if that passes, one of the second checks to remove it. I have bonuses and advantage on medical, and both of those come up as 1. I've saved before the event to ensure I could get it, but it doesn't seem to help. I haven't gone so far as starting a new game, and if I have to do that I'm just going to quit.

Is this event just a forced loss for some people?

Confirmation bias will always make these games feel rough, so you have to stop focusing on the dice rolls. You will just go through bad streaks, just the way the dice roll sometimes. Instead of starting a new game or bogging down on 1 failed check, advance and find out what happens next. Then if you play again, hopefully they have better checks for that roll and pass it. Then you get to experience a new situation even tho you are replaying the same game.
