Nothing happens, you just leave her there and catch up with her later. It's doesn't matter whether you free her or not. Failure in this game isn't like failure in other games, more often it just takes a different path to get to a similar destination.
Except of course the really big decisions, but those don't usually come down to dice rolls.

Oh, you mean like failing the die roll resisting the mind flayer 10 minutes into the end, with a game over when you do?

You actually fell for that? Why would you lock mental horns with a mind flayer? That's kind of what they do. I just walk up to him and curb stomp him.

You can do this at the beginning of the game too with the wounded mindflayer in the nauteloid. Also a game over isn't the same as failure game over is the ultimate failure. You're dead, do not pass go, do not collect 100 gold pieces, good day sir, goodbye.

Luckily for you, you're the nevarine and you can just rewind time and follow one of the many divergent timelines where you didn't fail.

I did the same in my first playthrough, but then just rolled again with Lae'zel.

You just lose out on approval with her.

The only time I ever failed that skill check was on my Barbarian, (rolled a 1). Then I used the "Barbarian Strength" dialogue option to free her from the pod.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
