Hunt the Devil - Cannot beat the paladins
I knew this was going to be a tough fight, and I have Karlach, Lae'zel, and Gale with me. I'm an elf ranger.
What's the strategy for this fight? I've tried four times and have gotten absolutely nowhere with it. They take me down within three rounds.
I'm level three, btw.

One of them is level 5. Perhaps... Just level up and come back? An extra level or two will give you a good chunk of extra HP, a bonus to hit, a feat/more stats, plus you'll prolly find some items you can use

mayhaps take a step or two back and examine the situation as a whole. set up a pit of Grease or some barrels. Even leave and come back after grinding and getting a lvl or two.

Get to be level 4.
Otherwise, turn the difficulty down and be sure to use the high ground to your advantage. If you can silence that mage, that'll help.

I sorta lured them out the door, and concentrated on taking out the primary/commander paladin first. but yeah was tough!

Lvl 4 is where your characters really start coming into their power; everything is a bit easier after that.

How i did it was i went in side the room to the left where there is 1 npc, start the cutscene, start fight, Close the door force them to get close if you are a melee Character.
It forces them to run and spend action cause they think you are far away and will run in sometime run past you and you get reaction attack

They aren't hostile so you can plan some ambushes. There's also many rooms so you can divide and conquer if you're smart about positioning. Crowd control like Sleep also helps since there's too few of them to wake each other up. Ground fire in the doorways is a good way to stop anyone from walking through to help.

It's a tight container of a house with an upper floor, extra rooms, a roof you can shoot through, and an outside. Think tactically and it shouldn't be a problem. The biggest concern is the Paladin with the greatsword because he can smite your characters to death easily so focus on him first.

At level 3 I imagine it's quite difficult. The main paladin guy is the problem, the other two go down without much difficulty.
Note there is a burning candelabra above him, use that to your advantage along with some imaginatively placed flammable surfaces to chip his HP down.
Also, yeah, as others have said, come back at a higher level. It can be done at level 3 but there's no reason to go through that painful experience.

command: drop weapon and/or heat metal on the lvl5 paladin stuck in metal armor are also good options.

don't forget - as ill recommended as it is you CAN split the Party and attempt to flank them from two sides or multiple angles.

Seems people are either not able to win or are acing the encounter. I took a couple big hits but it wasn't that hard. I have to wonder if it isn't a matter of understanding and using the game mechanics to the fullest. Without watching someone struggle through a tough encounter, I have no way of knowing what feedback is required.

I was level 3 too and the Paladin needs to go asap, before he kills the whole party on his own. The others are more of a nuisance than a threat, he on the other hand can easy down someone in one round with his double smites.

Level 3-4 on everyone, CC the trash and kill the boss first or he will wipe your party.

I did this fight at level 4 and still had two characters go down - one of which in a single round to spammed extra attack divine smites.

If I had to find a way to do it below 4 (the extra HP and first feats could potentially be gamechangers in a fight like this) I'd say to cheese things as hard as possible with spells like Hold Person. Lock the Paladin down and surround him with your melees for guaranteed critical hits. You might need to savescum until Hold Person works, though.

smorc the guy with the long sword. the more difficult fights are usually around bursting a high priority target. once the longsword guy is dead nothing happens. look through you inventory and spell list and prepare things like coating weapons, casting bless and so on.
