Can't Use Rune of the Wolf
Got the Rune by completing a quest, I go to the adjacent library to put it in the missing stone tablet, won't work.

Anytime I click on the button to add it, to then combine it, I just get the message "Can't Use This Right Now". Am I missing something or is this a glitch? I want whatever treasure this unlocks.

Did you figure this out? I'm having the same issue

Drag it from inventory to slot.

So drag it across the screen and don't just click on it? If that's true, why is that even a thing? lmao

I'm having the same problem. Dragging it to the slot doesn't work - it says there's not enough space, and the attempt triggers the same error of not being able to use it right now.

He gave it to me as a reward and no, reloading doesn't work.

The game overall is a bug fest, Dice Rolls don't even work half the time when I rush them; I can have six modifiers on my roll so I at minimum should be getting a total of 10 when all is said and done, yet quite often when I roll and rush it, end result is a 1, which again makes no sense with all the modifiers I have going on.

You have to click on all the pedestals. Not just the one.

That's vague, do the other three runes must be activated first for the rune to be able to be combined? I have no idea what you're trying to say. And apparently this bug has been around since EA, as any google search I type in about this issue, pulls up posts from years ago.

The other runes are all placed already. You have to activate all four. Then it opens. You just needed the one to finish it basically. It took me a minute as well. I was like... Okay. Then I tried the other pedestals. I think they light up when you touch them but it's been a few days. But I had to go and touch all the ones surrounding the thing in the middle they are facing which is a statue or something if I remember right.

The statue then disappears and stairs appear.

You're rolling a nat 1 and auto-failing. The reverse happens with a natural 20, you automatically succeed.

It's not a strict rule of 5th edition D&D, but it's a common house rule and something the core books mention as something optional you can include as a flourish to particular rolls. BG3 seems to be running with that ruled in.

Which makes no sense as If I watch the roll fully and roll a 1, the modifiers will be added to it afterwards and I'll pass, this only happens when I skip the rolling animation.

I know the other runes are placed, I'm saying that the game will no let me add the missing rune to the pedestal, whether the other three are lit up after being pressed, or not.

This is how Dungeons and Dragons has always worked. A natural 1 is always a failure, no matter what. You dropped your sword, you farted, you broke a tool, you got distracted, whatever: There's always a 5% chance to fail in D&D, no matter what.

There's also a 5% chance ti just automatically win. You get lucky, or a flash of divine insight, or you spy an opening in a target's armor, or whatever else you want to use to justify doing what might have otherwise been impossible.

It does not only happen when you skip the rolling animation. This is the way D&D has worked for ages. Critical Failure (natural 1 on the D20), and Critical Success (natural 20 on the D20).

If it works as you claim (it doesn't, unless you're using mods or cheating to "always win dice rolls" with a trainer), the bug is that your watching the roll is letting you have a chance, not that skipping the animation results in a guaranteed failure with a natural 1.

Ok so I encountered the same error message. I found this tread, read the comments and the answer wasn't clear but it was there so here's what worked for me
access the pedestal.
when the "combine" pop up opens, open your inventory and drag directly from inventory.
**trying to click or drag from the hot bar does not work**
hope that helps, cheers!

Here's how to use the Rune of the Wolf:

1 - Click on the empty socket to open the "Combine Items" window
2 - Open your inventory
3 - Drag the Rune of the Wolf from your inventory to the empty, black square in the "Combine Items" window
4 - Click on "Combine" and the name of the "Combine Items" window will change to "Rune of the Wolf"
5 - Close your inventory and the "Rune of the Wolf" window
6 - Click on each runes quickly. The order doesn't seem to matter, but the runes have to be clicked quickly, before any of them go out.
7 - The statue in the center of the room should lower and leading down should appear.
8 - Go down the stairs to the room containing your reward.
