Sex doesn't work in art.
I think this is really what rubs most people the wrong way. It's not just the "gay" stuff, it's the fact everybody is horny and flirty out of nowhere and regardless of their character.

People who play games like this want to be engrossed in the story, they want to feel they are living out their favored fantasy novel. They want to feel like they are directly experiencing what Frodo did in Lord of the Rings and so on.

Remember how sad your relationship with Dak'kon was, or how tragic the Deionarra backstory was in Torment? Remember feeling sympathy for Kelrdon, or having feeling of camaraderie for Kivan despite BG1 having very scant NPC interactions, just going by the portrait and the voice acting?

Now imagine if all those characters tried to have sex with you the second you met them. Just random "wink wink" sex innuendos or lustful stares. Imagine the second you meet Minsc he wants to jump in your pants.

I don't see how you can call this art. If Tolkien did this in his books he would be called an hack.

Then don't play the game. I like it, you seem like a loser wasting their time ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about *checks notes* sex in video games. Then don't play the ones that have it.

Most I've played don't have it at all. Play them?

imagine being so upset over others not liking something you like that you feel the need to call them losers over something you think is insignificant

"imagine being so upset over others not liking something you like that you feel the need to call them losers over something you think is insignificant"

Every opinion is important to share right? :D No matter the context it's of the utmost importance!

Alot of people ♥♥♥♥ themselves over gay people existing, people having tattoos and all kinds of asinine bs and I'm tired of seeing their garbage even in video game discussion forum where I'm trying to read bugfixes.

Go to twitter and be a victim there instead, you don't like sex in art don't consume art with sex in it.

Nobody gives a ♥♥♥♥. Shut up.

prudish american are going absolutely insane over this game, "OH! SEX! GROSS!" as they ignore the children shooting each other in their schools
We need a better specification than just "american" because there are absolutely a bunch of americans, such as myself, that aren't prudish. It is hard to steer the country away from it though when you consider that it was the prudes that first colonized it.

you do realize that this is all optional to engage with
i'm
a) straight, and "old" (41) and don't care about other sexualities
b) realy not looking for p*rn in my video games

but i'm gonna let you in on a secret: you can pick different options. i know..even the freemasons didn't know this, but when there's 4 different options in a conversation to chose, you can chose one you like or avoid the whole thing alltogether.
that's the funny thing about parrots getting high on the woke-culture-anti-woke-culture-s**t..conservatives and reactionaries that is...always getting all whiny about stuff that realy doesn't affect em. age of the Karen.
looking at this steam bord i got to admit: rightwing Karen's are the most annyoin thing on this planet, you can barely find any gameplay discussion, etc. cause the tears just keep on comin.

People are blowing this WAY out of proportion...

All you need to do is say NO and they leave you alone.... seriously what the hell is wrong with everyone...

Doesn't work that way. If you are at all trying to RP and get immersed in the world, it's going to stick out forever that your entire party tried to bone you at one point, male or female.

Imagine if Kelrdon in BG2 tried to screw you on your first meeting. Sure, you can say no and have the character act normal for the rest of the game but you still have to live with the knowledge this father figure type paladin is some kind of sexual predator.

The game needs an option for you to back out of this at character creation.
When I started the game it asked my if i wanted to disable nudity and nudity related content. It is an option.
The games does seem to feel very Anti-platonic when it comes to companions.

You either flirt or just be rude instead.

Honestly at this point it's clear there's a lot of people playing who have never played a CRPG in their life, as they keep dragging this game for things that show up on a regular basis in other CRPGs as well.
Sex works fine in art.

This ain't art, it's a Larian game piggybacking off a classic RPG.

Well that's just not true. Look at nude paintings. Porn can also be considered art to a degree. You're just mad cause this game is doing everything opposite of the status quo and not being censored and woke. Well, slightly woke since there's gay stuff.

That's because sex is objectively worse than violence.

Here's an easy test: what what would you rather do, have your eight year old child watch a violent movie, or have them watch a collection of hard core porn with a collection of facials to top it off?

There's a reason pedophiles are far more reviled even more than murderers.
So you seem to think games are art, but you also seem to think they should have their own vision compromised for irresponsible parents. Which one is it?
I don’t have a problem with romance/sex scenes/genitalia in the games. I have a problem with subpar WRITING and DESIGN. The problem, in my opinion, is not that there are romances or explicit sex scenes but how these interactions are implemented. Obviously, you can’t please everyone but the simple solution would be letting the protagonist initiate romance if they want to experience it, and make the dialogues less cringey, i.e., better written.

As I mentioned earlier in some other thread, Lae’zel sexually harassed my female character in the camp practically on the second night (and of course no long rest yet) with only Astarion hired so far. It was out of the blue, without any encouragement. That conversation had 2 options — deny or have sex with her tonight and potentially lose the opportunity to romance other NPC you haven’t even met yet. For a new player that’s a tough choice to make right off the bat. I also got the sex scene and then a mirror scene with Astarion WAY BEFORE even going to the goblin camp or to the swamp, or the Underdark or even contacting Nettie! Not kidding. That’s how drastically they changed everything in 1.0.

People really need to stop falsely labelling all flirting as "sexual harassment" even when you can turn the person down and they'll accept it.

Like, the anti-LGBT people ironically and hilariously sound exactly like SJWs and radfems right now.

Sex CAN work in art, but not on this level of cheap writing.

The game feels more like it was written for some horny teens than it was for a mature audience.

2 hours into my game.. Haven't done a quest yet, only explored a little. In camp, everyone is a horny dog.

We just got some "horrific" bug down our eyes, we crash-landed a ship. No one knows anyone yet, but they all want to bed me during fiest camp.

What a cheap-written game!
