Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3

Is Steam version of BG3 DRM free ?
Hi there,

Bought BG3 on steam.
Is Steam version of BG3 DRM free ?
Can i launch the Larian launcher without launching the game from the steam client ?
Can i copy paste the game directory on another computer as I would do with the GOG version of the game ?

Thank you.
Nice day.

it's easy to check just close steam (also right next to the clock) by pressing exit it will close steam and unload.

then you can launch BG3 with the launcher if it loads steam it's not DRM free

if you mean the desktop shortcut that will still launch steam ;)
and even if not the steamnative.dll file can be loaded just fine without steam actually running, it's a different matter if they are not there at all.

At any rate this discussion is going no where fast, the OP wants to Pir.. legally copy the game to another computer - and should properly just do so them self and find out ;)

nonsense Witcher III could be distributed freely and it sold like gold.
it's just a endless cycle and you the customer pay's the price for it.

if he wanna pir... he will pir and play's it anway now, soon or later.
why would OP buy's a product that gives more hassle then absolute necessary?.
also i wanna add you no longer own a single game licence, your buy a ticket that allow you to play the game!. big difference

You are mistaken. But it is your loss if you want to remain stubborn.

Try, login with the your Steam account on 2 different PCs and try to play your game on both at the same time.

be ready for disappointment....

You're wrong.

Baldur's Gate 3 has steamworks integration. So if you are logged into an account that has the game on it then it will automatically connect. Obviously your steam id can only be used once to login to multiplayer and stuff so that will break.

However there is nothing stopping you from running the copy you got from steam on two different computers and using the Larian launcher to login to different accounts that way.

Baldur's Gate 3 is 100% DRM free. It has zero license validation on Steam or GoG.
steam is a good drm if at the same day the game releases a crack exist XD

Hi again, a last (maybe) question.
I tried what your guide said about how to launch the game with a shortcut made by steam and if I do so, I cannot play online.
When I hit multiplayer, I don't see any game in the list.
I logged on my local game and tried to hit session to invite someone and this does not work.
I do something wrong ?

You need Steam to play online with the Steam version. You do not need Steam to play offline.

I have no idea why the contradiction it's crystal clear it have a DRM because it have a steam_api64.dll

if you wanna have a DRM free BG3 you should have bought the GoG version
if you keep the ticket and use a single account you can resell it legit in the future.

I feel an aneurysm developing as I read this thread. To make it clear for anyone wondering about DRM that finds this thread and doesn't immediately click off, Baldur's Gate 3 does NOT have DRM on Steam. It has a steam_api64.dll file purely for using Steam features when ran through said launcher.

The game can be fully launched and played (including multiplayer) without Steam by fully closing Steam and using either the "bg3_dx11.exe" (DirectX 11) or "bg3.exe" (Vulcan) files located in the game's "bin" folder. You can also skip the optional Larian launcher used for cross-saves by creating a shortcut for your preferred exe file and adding "--skip-launcher" at the end of the "target" text box in its properties window.

Sorry for adding another comment into this already somewhat lengthy thread, but it appeared that some people were still confused about the subject.
