no no no, this is 5e, you need double digits and you can clear any adventure path.
I'd argue the opposite as these types of CRPGs have been having a new golden era as of late across the board. I'll admit I too didn't see the fuss until I learned to wrap my head around the combat system. Once it clicks, the combat is deeply rewarding as how you prepare your characters, the battlefield, and use your various skills, magic, items, etc. all together is seriously good fun. You can do a lot with a jar of grease, a fire source, and setting up a proper choke point for example. Once everything comes together it's impressive how many options you have even with basic fights. Add in class specific builds and you can be downright deadly early on.
That is a huge number of players for a game that is nearly a few days out.
It seems a big part of the players are here for the role playing, world building and story.
And that's okay too. That way you can still get many hours out of your purchase.
...and that is sadly where most of those complainers fail very short. (including OP)
Even the modern adaption of XCOM where too much to grasp for the ADHD crowd.
Considering Larian did a good job to streamline the D&D 5e rules for the "lesser" fortunates,.. its still not enough for the special kind of dimwit.
Imagine those lesser souls trying something like pathfinder... *laugh*
The combat in this game is not only rubbish but also one of the least fun turn based combat system I've ever used. Get copium out of your system people.
I miss "expedition Rome" and "Xcom" when I'm playing this.
Chances to hit are awful.
I've been doing very well in combat so I wouldn't say I'm struggling (to those morons saying it's a skill issue). I'm just not having fun with this garbage combat.
I hate damage range where it can be anywhere from 1 to 10dmg, for example.
I hate casting spells and getting resisted non stop.
I hate missing half my attacks.
Dnd is the worst RPG in the world, to me. I honestly don't respect role players that just play DnD as their main game while you have games like L5k, cyberpunk, vampire and Deadlands and so many more. I'm just playing BG3 for the story, which isn't that captivating anyway. I'm yet to see something interesting in 18 hours of playing. I'm yet to meet any interesting characters.
This game needs physics based die that we roll ourselves. It would slow the combat down but D&D is slow and rolling die is part of the fun. Table Top Simulator does this very well.
This was my thought also. I get that you can have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ rolls and that you can have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ streaks (thats supposed to be what the karmic dice thing is for, in theory) but damn have I had some ludicrous roll streaks.... funnily enough none of them good...
Like I said in an earlier post, I'm having fun with the game but, OPs evident simmering rage and knee jerk reaction aside, the dude has a point...
It's not surprising. I mean the sales numbers suggest that many more people bought the game (based on hype, having a great release window, etc) than really represents the core playerbase for this kind of combat system, so a large appetite for cheat mods almost immediately.
This is what I hate, having to watch videos and visit other websites to play a game. The game should have sufficient in-built tutorials to ensure that you can then work it out for yourself. I have started playing yet, it's downloading, but I hope, after all this time, I'm not going to be searching up basic things online.
