No Feat/ASI After Multiclass?

I reached character level 4 recently and I noticed that I can't take feats/ASI's for characters that multiclass. Is this a balancing mechanic? I was really bummed out to discover this.

You get an ASI/feat every four levels of a single class. In other words, you can still get ASIs as a multiclass character, but only once each individual class reaches a level that's a multiple of four. e.g. level 3 Paladin/level 2 Bard, no ASI... but level 4 Paladin/level 1 Bard, you get an ASI

WotC made the dubious choice to lock feats to class levels, not character levels. So a Paladin 3/Bard 3/ Warlock 3/Sorcerer 1 will be a level 10 character with powerful cantrips (because you can't stop caster supremacy) but 0 feats. You get Feats the exact same way as Proficiency Bonuses (same rate for all classes here) but ♥♥♥♥ you, no feats. Because reasons.

Feats are actually not earned at the same rate. Fighters get two extra feats (levels 6 and 14, not that BG3 goes to 14), rogues get one extra feat (level 10).
