Wizards are better for utility.
Sorcerers can be an absolute menace in damage dealing with the metamagic - like casting two fireballs at the same time.
Sorcerer is all about using your sorcerery points to either regain spell slots or empower the spells they do have. Them being based on CHA also makes them quite versatile when multiclassing.
Wizard is all about utility. They're going to have more spells to choose from and if you know what you'll need for that day, then they'll be very effective. Their downside is being based entirely on INT which is okay for passing some knowledge checks but otherwise plain worse than CHA. It also makes them a fairly poor multiclass choice.
Speaking of multiclass.
Can you multiclass into multiple wizard subclasses? :D
