Disappointed with face and voice options in Character creator?
Is anyone else disappointed by the variety of face options we are given in the character creator? For the record the quality of the models and textures is outstanding, some of the best i've seen in an rpg, but the variety is lacking. It's better for some races and worse for others though some suffer very badly like male gnome. Most of the faces for those in particular look way too similar, a lot of redundancy. I also tried to make a female human and just couldnt find anything I liked.

The lack of a sculpting feature is a bit weird too, I thought that had become the accepted norm.

Also kinda disappointed with the voice options. They are great quality but I feel like theres a lot of redundancy there as well.

Anyone else feel this way?

I agree

The character creation feels very lacking in diversity, almost all character settings feel androgynous, and it does not help that makeup and small things like that are almost non existing. On a good day its lacking, and IMO it sucks. Especially for a Fantasy RPG where you should be able to make whatever you want. It's worse then the standard for sure.

Yeah. If I was in a bar, I wouldn't take home any of the characters I can create in this game. :( Other than that and the save game issues, it is a very well done game though.

Mostly the expressions that annoyed me a lot, they should have just removed the player character from view from most cinematic or attempted to avoid it. Nothing worse than seeing the character do these weird expression without saying anything and moving like a puppet.

Followed by voices options afterward, mostly because yeah the choices are limited & they don't really play a big role, meaning they only needed to record like, 20 line each?

Right..........pardon my skepticism.....

More options would be nice for sure. But overall, the animations along with what you pick, works very well. The attention to detail is really good.

They do need more voice options, there is not good option for Dwarfs, or Half-Orcs. No gruff voices, no noble sounding voices, no shady sounding voices, no eccentric sounding voices, no obviously insane voices. The namesake games had all of these as options for both genders. The ones you get are just normal human, no personality within the voice.

i just want to create or find a default generic good looking young human male presets,
black or yellow short hair & blue eyes. why is it so hard?

since they let me label girls as males, i tried to use that to creat a generic twank/good looking pretty femboy, the Character creator wouldn't even let me modify or remove the breasts.

im really Disappointed with the Character creator options,
im not in the mood to role-play a really long game with a non-heroic looking protagonist.

Exactly. I hate that weird grimace the player keeps doing like "OoOoh I'm sharting chilli burritos.."

Seems like they do it at least once every dice roll.

Not really no. Sure, the voice and face choices are limited and no male voice choices are deep enough, at least for my taste, but I really couldn't care less. I created my character with the options that I had and moved on to playing the game.

Never been a fan of sculpting faces since i always suck at it. I'd rather have a preset number of well made faces and this game is lacking in that department.

Faces are fine though sliders would've been nice for both face and body settings.
The voices are real lame though, basically just 8 mostly identical voices, it's pretty hilarious 20+ year old games did this better.
They could probably have bought some of the old Infinity Games voicesets for pennies and it would've been better

i think the faces look more like average humans than most ppl r used to in video games but i was under the impression there would be sliders or something. ig its a good trade-off, high-quality models with complex animations for less customization. but i would be lying if i said i werent disappointed.

the voices are literally my fav part of making charas in the old games. yeah. yeahh... my avatars r not nice and calm ppl lol

That's how it works. Allowing face customizable would mess up the mocap animations.
Just my guess

The face options are consistantly what me and all my friends complain about. not liking any of the options. And the voice tones for the male characters not really having that wide a range, in both actual voice and vocal cadance.

Yeah, games like Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights still have some of the most memorable and funniest voices to date.

The female voice in BG3 annoys me hard when you're trying to use it on an evil character. It's basically Lara Croft. "No traps pleaaase~" "Ooh no I dropped my bible!"
Strez Aug 15, 2023 @ 11:45pm
The avatar voices are too similar, I feel. And none of them are a good fit for a variety of race/class options. I just can't reconcile the voices available with the looks of some possible race or class combinations. Dwarves, half-orcs, any race as a barbarian? Just doesn't fit.
