Non-lethal attacks still useless
Why was this feature added to the game if it's functionally useless?

I was a bit disappointed a non-lethal win in a quest fight is counted as kill from the quest progression

It takes a special kind of gaming group (players and dungeon master) to use rules like non-lethal damage well. Another thing that isn't done often, imo, are negotiations on the road between adventurers and monsters.
I was hoping I could knock the mask wearing guys out instead of killing them. It doesn't work? How can you activate non-lethal attacks?

Can you elaborate on how its functionally useless? Was planning to use it.

Why do you think it's useless?

You knock some one out and they can't wake up again, so they might as well be dead.
The game also doesn't seem to care about the difference. You won the fight, they are dead / knocked out (also dead)

From a role playing perspective, it's important.

When rescuing frog-girl-thing in chapter 1, I didn't want to murder the Tieflings so knocked them out which made me feel a bit better about it.

Functionally being knocked out is the same as being dead, they vanish when you long rest and the dialogues still say you killed them when you just knocked them out.

I have used it twice so far in my game, and I've been glad it was there both times.
Found 1 Questline so far where it makes a difference if you kill or knock out, was the only one in Act 2 though...

Unfortunately, the camp will consider them murdered. Same goes for any other NPC you knock out.

I do want to say that this has been changed, I knocked out a quest essential npc and was able to talk to them after a long rest
NGL Been trying the non-lethal and it still seems inconsistent. Every time I have used it even when using the weapons with no magical or elemental properties, it randomly kills one of the characters with the masks when facing the hag. The most effective way I have seen to save the people with the masks is to kill the hag, before traversing down into her lair and before she can escape to the lair. I'm trying to go to Bauldersgate and see if that arc needs to be done before removing the masks from the slaves. And possibly backtracking.

For me, it's needed to recruit two companions I want to KO and not kill; it's the only time I use it, but that hardly makes it "useless".
