What does "This spell is a different version. You will have access to both" mean?

It shows up when you level up and select the same spells you already have access to. It says its different but it looks like the same to me.

I think the stronger but same spells have a II or III on their icon, they are as i just said stronger

I think that might be it, or if its a cantrip, scale with a different stat.

It's the same spell but from another spell book.

Meaning you have learnt it as FOR EXAMPLE as level 1 spell, and you learn it via a scroll where it is a level 3 spell or later level up same spell at higher level - this triggers this warning telling that lower level spell will be replaced by its higher level version with stronger damage result. Simple as that.

I've gotten that message.

It was for a spell I picked via bard class, which uses CHA, but can also be picked via wizard class, which uses INT and can be upscaled to be more useful. Basically the game's way of telling you while you have a spell, there's a different way of casting it also available to you.

it might mean its altered like arcane trixters mage hand which can pick locks or it might just mean you always have it memorized. it would be nice if it listed the effects of what makes it better

well I tested it. If you're doing Warlock and another spellcaster class, you need to have the "warlock" spell if you want to use the warlock spell slot instead of the standard spell slots. So it's another reason to learn that spell (if you want that)
