Barbarian and Monk

I dont get it. Am i supposed to not have any +armor gear or should i just wear the best gear with them possible? Can somebody explain?

It depends…
But if you wand to use rage and monk attacks… Wear only robes.
Your AC is for barbarian 10 +DEX mod + Con mod and for monk Dex mod + Wisdom mod.
So if you have +2 in another and +3 in other stat,,, Your AC is 15, that is not bad at all!

If you want to make barbarian monk… It is best to go for monk AC (high dex and high wisdom) and get maybe 2 to 4 level of barbarian to get rage attacks. They work now with dex too, so you can get quite trong monk that has some anger issues to deal with ;) (first 5-6 levels of monk, then 4 levels of barbarian and after that the remaining 2-3 levels of monk)

But yeah… Robes is the best you should wear and keep you AC stats high!

monk weapons are unarmed, simples weapons and shortsword.

yes you can add more attacks to a fighter using monk skills, but keep in mind that you will have to be unarmored if im not wrong. and you probably will have just a few ki points. by the way i don't know if the monk can use flurry of blow while using two-handed weapons. i think it can, but im not sure.

You can multiclass to fighter to get fightings style and second level action surge.
Short swords are simple weapons so hey work. Monk weapons are not unarmed.
Think it like this. First monk hiths with monk weapon like quater staff or any other simple weapon (that is weapon attack). After that he/she use his knees, head, fist to make extra attach that is unarmed or two if he use furry of blows.

That is important because some effect works with weapon attacks and some with unarmored attacks and monk can have both.
Monk can also use pure unarmored attacks but at low levels i is weaker than weapon attack (as a main action)

You can rage in any armor except heavy armor. You can even use shields.

Monk weapons are any weapon you are proficient with that isn't heavy (two handed required). So an elven monk can use a longsword.

You could, but honestly, you're better off adding a single level of war domain cleric to fighter. That will get you bonus action attacks with any weapon as often as a few levels of monk, AND they will be with your weapon. Also, you can take bless, divine favor, and or healing word.

But you cant only wear specifically robes right? It seems that you can wear anything that just does not state ''armor'' like heavy armor or medium armor or light armor but things like clothing seem fine?

There's also Bracers of Defense which give you +2 AC if you're unarmored. So stacking that with your Barbarian's other stuff will give you 17 AC or more.

Barbarian AC unarmed >> than monk AC unarmed, because barbarian works with shild, monk not.
