Why do I need to fight the hyena?

I saved the hyena from becoming a gnoll and now I need to fight them while they lay down on the path and whimper? I really don't wanna kill them - anything I can do to avoid this?

you stopped them in the middle of their ritual to turn. why wouldn't they attack you?

but thats the point they didnt attack me they still lay on the path and whimper

part of the lore when it comes to gnolls and hyenas is that Yeenoghu drives them mad with hunger. To them you are another meal and they are free to kill and eat you. Some things can not be avoided no matter how hard you try.

They are suffused by demonic energy from Yeenoghu. Killing them is doing em a favor.

Killing them clean is the mercy, them giving birth to gnolls and dying that way is bad
