BG1 and 2 were based on 3rd Edition DnD. Thats dead now. 3rd Edition was burned to ashes decades ago and replaced by the hated 4th Edition. Which was replaced by 5th Edition.

And basically everyone who is playing pathfinder are 3e players, since it's basically the continuation of the 3e system.
And no BG1/2 wasn't based on 3e. The sheer irony of your comment is staggering.
Then call it: Dungeons & Dragons: Assault on Baldur's Gate. Or just call it "Baldur's Gate" as a remake from the start. Using Baldur's Gate 3 and using it as a trilogy implies certain things.
