It's a generic RPG, that does not carry the legacy of Baldur's Gate. It's a great game, but it's not BG.

They are not really comparable. I play all RPGs but for different reasons. As an rpg larian has the upper hand while bethesda shines more at open world sims. I enjoy both very much.

Honorable mentions go to inxile and hairbrained schemes ofc but unfortunately they haven't done anything lately.

i think larian shouldn't have gotten bg3, but for totally different reasons. the forgotten realms are an incredibly boring setting and D&D 5e might be the single worst ttrpg i have ever played. if they wanted a game with a built-in player base there are so many better ttrpgs they could have made a game off of (and i'd ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love it if they just start doing this, btw, i'd love a good numenera rpg or any of the other RPGs i always bring up as an option when i say this), and if they _had_ to suck off wotc and use the worst system they could have at least used one of the interesting settings wotc has made.

disagree, pillars of eternity is a fantastic crpg, so was tyranny, there recent penitent and grounded games were all amazing games.

My problem with pillars is that it didn't evolve anything, unlike DOS2 did.

Nobody played BG1 and BG2 for it's horrendeous RTWP combat but for the story and companions.

I can't remember i single thing i did combat wise in pillars.

Personally my stance is the first two baldurs gate games should have been turn based too. RTWP should never have been associated with rpgs especially Dnd

It is not. Larian's BG3 is pretty comparable to Lizzo's crystal flute performance. In this case, the historical relic given to them was the BG IP, which is definitely a "historical relic" in RPG history.

Comparing BG as a historical artifact in gaming is an apt analogy. Comparing Larian to Lizzo is a less obvious analogy. In what way would you say they are similar? Both begin with an L I guess, but besides that what can you add? XD

Siege was a fanmod. The only thing it has in common with BG is that it runs on IE. Still, it's closer to BG than this.

If their game gets better reviews, more sakes and higher concurent players metrics then sure. Those would be fair reasons to call a gane that.
