Is there ANY other way to keep Shadowheart and Nightsong alive besides the DC 21 check?

It's been hours and the RNG STILL won't cooperate, even with a small bonus from guidance. And before you ask, this check locks in the main character. I CANNOT use a higher-charisma party member.

All I did was to use a fighter as my main. Not a charisma-heavy class. I did NOTHING wrong.

In a pen and paper game this would be called poor DM'ing. The DM's job is to give the players a fun and engaging game, with character death coming as a result of a mistake or player stupidity. There should never be a no way to win situation apart from what I mentioned. Such a situation in one of my games was a character who thought it would be a good idea to hit a dragon on the nose with a short sword ( it didn't end well ).

I finally got the roll after almost two hours.

And I guess it depends on how big of a mistake. Stupidity, or at least obvious and/or intentional stupidity, is a different story. Like using a sword to pick a dragon's nose. No, that didn't happen.

Spread out your characters in the fight and get rid of Bal fast as he will try to spam Cloudkill.
Keep the characters away from the edge as they will get punt-kicked by the big guys.
Once you remove the risks of being yeet and the aoe, it should be easy to win the fight.
Shadowheart will do what's right even if you don't try to convince her.
