Killing the escaping tadpole from Edowin questions.
The couple of decisions you can make with the guys corpse is a bit odd to me.

You really only have 2 options:
1. do a strength or wisdom check to "resist" the tadpole which will then spawn a little tadpole creature that will run away from you and disappear.

2. don't resist and gain the "mind flayer parasite specimen" item that i believe is used as a currency for a system later on in the game.

Neither option seemed to have any sort of effect on companion affection.

At first glance it seems like not resisting to get the item is the better deal, which is odd because its the "easier" of the two choices since it doesn't require any kind of skill check. Usually the skill check options are what open up new possibilities, which leads me to ask, is it a good thing it escapes for something later on? Like will it infect someone else? or grow up into something we can fight?

i was actually able to kill it before it disappeared with some fire aoe shenanigans, but it doesn't drop any loot. You can put its corpse in your inventory, but i kind of doubt that does anything. Though i am curious if it would affect whatever possible scenario would come out of doing the skill check option. ie: future fight or npc infection

Of these 3 possible scenarios:

1. Resist - creature escapes into the woods
2. Resist - quickly kill creature before it escapes into the woods
3. Dont Resist - put creature in pocket (get an item)

If no one knows 1 turns out or if 2 would affect 1 i guess ill just go with the option that gives you an item.

What's the item?

I messed around with trying to kill repeatedly. I don't know if there's a benefit. But the easiest way to do it is to Shift+Space to enter turn-based mode just as the dialogue ends. Trying to kill it with fire in real time is tricky.

The "item" is a dead tadpole's body, by the way. It's not even a normal inventory item. It's a corpse item that you can right-click and pick up. Probably worthless.

Looks like it gives you one point that you can spend on upgrading Illithid powers later

You want the item of course. You do not have to use it later on, when you decide this is not for you. But you can, if you decide to go for it.
