Is it safe to take a long rest?
Am new to D&D type of game play. Every fight for the most part uses up all spells or abilities I need to long rest to restore. Is there any danger in long resting after each fight, with regards to story events happening because of time wasted?

Overall the game is fun. I am still very early, havn't concluded the grove quest even, or talked to a doctor. Still trying to understand the general game loop, as its different than a lot of RPGs.

Some story events do supposedly trigger if you take too many long rests, but I can't say for sure how important these are. I personally would recommend due to that and need for camp supplies that you only use a long rest after a few encounters or to prepare for a very difficult encounter, and otherwise just be careful with your use of spells and use short rests.

Mainly this.
Don't forget about short rests - they cost you nothing, and don't instantly blow trough all your spell slots on the first enemy you encounter. Try using abilities that recharge on short rest, first.

ive had to restart because i didnt revive gale after 3 long rests.

it was lame. some bugged animation cut off mid-way and game over.

other than that i think there's no downside to long rests.

*the gale thing feel ultra-cheap and badly written. i dont have the liberty to delete him because he's gonna blow the world up if i do.. wow.. bad writing, cheap.

would be bad design if long rests impacted you negatively, especially since you have to pay 80/80 rations for it now.

If you're checking every crate and barrel and hoarding camp supplies you might not go too badly, but I can see it becoming a problem. Don't forget to use short rests, and keep track of which abilities recharge on a short or long rest! You get 2 short rests each day which restore your short rest abilities and 50% hp for free.

Play more, get a hang of it, and if you get through a fight with resources to spare then try moving on to the next one without a long rest and see how you go. It might not seem like it at first, but you can get a lot done without having to expend spells or abilities.

Uh? I'm not even done with Act 1 and I have some 2400 supplies.
Does the cost increase or something?

My general rule is every fight I use a short rest so after around 3-4 fights I'll always long rest this worked for me in EA without missing any companion content really and so far has been working for me in the full game.

You have to pace your rest. Use your shirt rests.

Every 2 big fight or so. Depending on how loose your spell casting.

Long rests move some events ahead. For example: Lae'zel is captured after the crash, and you can free her. But if you wait too long (=rest too often) she and her captors are gone and you see her only much later. There are arguing cultists further down the road, but they are gone, if you get there only later, removing whatever opportunity they might have offered.
From what I saw it is probably nothing critical, though.
