Just beat the game
It was a disappointing experience. Even with tempered expectation, now that I stand at an end and look back? This was a game that did not need to be made. The connections to the previous games feels contrived. It feels like a crass exercise in commerce.

The story elements felt disparate, the plot armour given to some of the characters felt oppressive, the jokes were painful, the music dull, the path was linear and short. And the way they treated the past was utterly disrespectful. They claimed this game was made by fans, but the sheer fact they'd toss aside iconic legendary voice actors to recast them for no particular reason is... beyond me.

Why did we need Viconia and Sarevok and Jaheira and Minsc to return? The treatments of those characters feels so disrespectful to the actors who helped give them life and the fans who loved them.

You, Larian, dug up the past just to make a few quick dollars. You took something that was adored by people across the globe to desecrate those memories in service of commerce. It's disgusting. And for what? A game closer to mediocre than great?

This isn't Baldur's Gate. This isn't even 5e D&D. This is just a greedy exercise of meglomania.

How is Sarevok back?

Gonna be honest the fans of this game are turning me off just as much as the things the OP has said. The inability to handle OP not liking the game and demanding access to their full profile history sounds like some birther nonsense.

Think I'll sit this one out, but will keep reading up on whatever connections it has to the originals to see if there's anything interesting there story-wise.
Yeah, it's pretty disappointing to see. I personally love the game so far but from what the OP has elaborated on in this thread, I can understand why he didn't like it. His initial post does come off a little too harsh and aggressive, so maybe some people felt attacked for liking the game? It's silly I know but fanboys are going to fanboy. I'm getting some secondhand embarrassment. lol

Even if you don't get the game now, I strongly urge you to get it on sale if you like CRPGs in general. I wouldn't recommend it if you are a hardcore Dnd or BG fan, you might be disappointed from what he has said.
no wonder you didnt enjoy the game when you already finished it, have you slept once in RL? Come on man. Im still act 1 and played ALOT since release.
Most reviews that have used the review copy aka has had time to get to the and have enjoyed this game. Nothing wrong if you don´t like but your ””proof” of your opinions has nothing to do with the game. ”It is not D&D 5e” yes… obvious, because this is computer adaptation so they normally are not. ”This is not BG1 / BG2” yes ofcourse it is not. It is BG3 and it has nothing to do with those two games (i like). It is a new game…
You say what this game is not. You should say what this game is. What are the best part of this game. What are the weakenses of this game…
If you make game reviews for living, you should learn to make them righ, and I am not saying that you have to be positive, but you have to be able to say something that is not obvious. You have to have content in the review that serves the reader that may or may not like the same things that you like personally.

A person is not obligated to play each of 5 different outcomes or endings to make his opinion about the game.
One simple run without savescuming as in roleplaying game is an honest experinece.
They're not obligated to post a review in forums and lambaste everyone that disagrees with it either.

He s not obligated to, but he still can, and so, OP did. People are open to share both positive and negative feedback. Instead of attacking the person one could attack the argument and tell why the story is not plain, what did they like about characters or music etc.

For example, my first impression about the plot was a bit "meh", because "Oh, so the plot is about characters being MARKED by DARK EVIL which everybody in the world are afraid of, but at the same time it gives them POWER and in the end they will have to CONFRONT IT?"

Is it a T-Virus? A spiderman? A DoS II plot? Oh, it's a Baldurs gate III intro. Thanks for not making me a prisoner starting on a sinking ship.

And award for dumbest take goes to Verenti. You rushed to the end game in 3 days then call the game linear. Holy ♥♥♥♥ you are dumb.
well at least he's been there, you on the other hand are talking out your backside.
Mission accomplished. You got attention, but everyone knows you didn't finish the game.
I can't refund the game, because I spent 1,5 hours afk by accidental desparing over it somewhere else. Also, there's only a few large CRPGs made at any given times so I am stuck with this game and some of the features I actually do like in this game (combat, leveling up, then some)

However, I agree with the OP, if I had some other cRPG to play (I daresay I played every major and most of the minor european cRPGS since 1990's), I'd forget about BG3 in an instant. It's very hard for me to say, because BG3 if anything is complex beyond awe, and that alone should raise respect, but man... weird mixture of fiting and unfiting styles, bad tastes, along with some well-made features (such as combat or discovering things on your own), everpresent edginess, hihi-ahaha tones along mystical situations...

I loved both DoSes and even the very first Divinities from 2000's. Back then I thought Larian is my favorite. The exploration... the love for the detail back then! It was great. Now, I'm going to be very sceptical about anything new they create and sure as heck won't instabuy it.

Apparently, they were not able to step out from their own shadow. Instead of a considerate approach to a wholly different world (Faerun), to the legends of old, and building on them and their own specific atmosphere, they just took their hihihaa Divinity approaches and hamfisted it in.

It's just indecency.

Dude, were you on infusion meds ? You beat game like this in less than 4 days since release and then you feel disappointed. The only way you could achieve that is spoil yourself ahead of time, low difficulty and speed trough the things, good job - or you juice yourself and didn't close eye shut

Most of us didn't even finish act 1, because this is one of the games you take time to immerse into the world building and story.

I stopped reading at "the music is dull".

No accounting for tastes. But in the same analogy of pop music being the junk food of music (albeit we all like junk food), BG3 musical score has nothing on the best of quisine such as BG, Longest Journey, basically anything with a profound musical score. And there's kinda inconsistency in this, because BG3 is otherwise magalomaniacal in its scope. They could've had the decency to hire some... oh what's the bother. Go eat chips dude. I will eat them too today. Just don't call them a good lunch.
The only thing I dislike so far is the ruleset and after I've taken my time to look into it I think it's terrible but it's to late for a refund 26j I think :D

pretty sure it's not Larian doing this but wizards of the coast, although I suppose you could say they agreed to do as they were told

the songs are ♥♥♥♥ yes, especially the char menu one where she keeps screeching 'down by the river' over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over
but the harpy song was good!

But I like that song :(

Well... let's see about those voice actors.

Jim Cummings has a steady gig with Disney, so he'd be hard to hire (and expensive!).

Grey Griffin is currently doing voices for no less than 15 animated series, so I'm preeeetty sure she's booked up...

Heidi Shannon hasn't done anything since 2001 so she's either retired or dead.

Kevin M Richardson has done 18 projects in 2023 alone, so he's probably also very hard to book.

But hey, for sure... it's all Larians doing and *they're* the ones to blame...

How about you stop being a man-baby and realize that it's been 23 years since the last game... voice actors have moved on and gotten big careers (or stopped working for whatever reason) and it's hard, maybe impossible, to get those people back for a game like this.
