Even if you don't get the game now, I strongly urge you to get it on sale if you like CRPGs in general. I wouldn't recommend it if you are a hardcore Dnd or BG fan, you might be disappointed from what he has said.
You say what this game is not. You should say what this game is. What are the best part of this game. What are the weakenses of this game…
If you make game reviews for living, you should learn to make them righ, and I am not saying that you have to be positive, but you have to be able to say something that is not obvious. You have to have content in the review that serves the reader that may or may not like the same things that you like personally.
He s not obligated to, but he still can, and so, OP did. People are open to share both positive and negative feedback. Instead of attacking the person one could attack the argument and tell why the story is not plain, what did they like about characters or music etc.
For example, my first impression about the plot was a bit "meh", because "Oh, so the plot is about characters being MARKED by DARK EVIL which everybody in the world are afraid of, but at the same time it gives them POWER and in the end they will have to CONFRONT IT?"
Is it a T-Virus? A spiderman? A DoS II plot? Oh, it's a Baldurs gate III intro. Thanks for not making me a prisoner starting on a sinking ship.
However, I agree with the OP, if I had some other cRPG to play (I daresay I played every major and most of the minor european cRPGS since 1990's), I'd forget about BG3 in an instant. It's very hard for me to say, because BG3 if anything is complex beyond awe, and that alone should raise respect, but man... weird mixture of fiting and unfiting styles, bad tastes, along with some well-made features (such as combat or discovering things on your own), everpresent edginess, hihi-ahaha tones along mystical situations...
I loved both DoSes and even the very first Divinities from 2000's. Back then I thought Larian is my favorite. The exploration... the love for the detail back then! It was great. Now, I'm going to be very sceptical about anything new they create and sure as heck won't instabuy it.
Apparently, they were not able to step out from their own shadow. Instead of a considerate approach to a wholly different world (Faerun), to the legends of old, and building on them and their own specific atmosphere, they just took their hihihaa Divinity approaches and hamfisted it in.
It's just indecency.
Most of us didn't even finish act 1, because this is one of the games you take time to immerse into the world building and story.
But I like that song :(
Well... let's see about those voice actors.
Jim Cummings has a steady gig with Disney, so he'd be hard to hire (and expensive!).
Grey Griffin is currently doing voices for no less than 15 animated series, so I'm preeeetty sure she's booked up...
Heidi Shannon hasn't done anything since 2001 so she's either retired or dead.
Kevin M Richardson has done 18 projects in 2023 alone, so he's probably also very hard to book.
But hey, for sure... it's all Larians doing and *they're* the ones to blame...
How about you stop being a man-baby and realize that it's been 23 years since the last game... voice actors have moved on and gotten big careers (or stopped working for whatever reason) and it's hard, maybe impossible, to get those people back for a game like this.
