XP rate gain?
I am curious how everyone is finding the xp gain?

Yesterday i cleared about 1/3rd of the map doing every encounter i could find and got to lvl 3 at best.

Today i started a new character cleared out the lost chapel and the first goblin fight at the grove and i am at lvl 3. I am curious if the massive xp increase i have experienced is a bug or if the slow xp gain from yesterday was the bug.

Both playthroughs were on normal mode.

3rd level is suppose to come quick then slow down if BG3 is simulating DnD 5e.

took me 3 hours yesterday to hit lvl 3, again thats doing everything that was still in game from the EA.

I did the exact same things today, and it took maybe 20 min. So I am quite confused.

lv 3 is fast, that combined with the most of the time you are skipping conversations you have already seen or repeating actions you did before and it drastically speeds things up.

I felt like the fights were progressing faster than my level, so I actually made my own custom xp chart. I...may have overdid it. I just got to Grymforge and I'm lvl 8. And yet, the fights STILL aren't easy, the Gith in particular kick my ass.

It just feels....wrong to be a low lvl for so long. You're supposed to blow through the first few to get to your class identity, but then again even as lvl 8 nothing much has really changed in my class. Gale still uses spells, Kalach still rages with her axe, Wyll still stabs and uses Eldritch Blast. I think that's sorta the worst part of the game so far, the vertical power climb.

Owlcat offset this in a HUGE way with the Mythic class system in Wrath of the Righteous. AND they had 20 / 40 levels. That felt like an adventure. 12 levels is just not enough, especially if you want to multiclass.

Having trouble getting past Level 3, here. I assumed you could roleplay, but apparently it's mandatory to murder-hobo the goblins or wipe out the tieflings just to be able to progress the story with enough XP to not be curb-stomped yourself. Same XP-scrounging nonsense of DOS:2, but with more chance of failing thanks to dice rolls.

I think I got to lvl 3 once I found the druid grove, after clearing out the chapel. Lvl 2 as soon as I hit the 3 brains in the crash site.

Are yoy allready at level 12. That was fast. Normally it does take ages to get that high level!
Also that is the pont of multiclassing. You are weaker in some way because you multiclass, but you are more vertisile. So you have to make a choise. Are you really powerfull in one aspect or rather good in many!
It is balansing thing. I personally expect that I am at leveö 9 or 10 when I end the game! I would be surpeiced to get at level 12…

I had thought the cap was 14 not 12.

I just got to some burning town that I rescued some peeps from, and hit lvl 4 more or less after doing what I could there.
I think sitting at 4 Inspiration at all times helps too, since if you would have gained an inspiration point but are maxed out you get bonus XP instead.

Some levels give you ability to use more powerful spells/actions. But, the power comes from learning the game. Use abilities given to be overpowered. Just by doing few optional stuff in Act 1 you can get sh*t ton of strong scrolls and potions. You can use your stealth as well as situational advantage from good rolls. Some optional stuff gives you extra aid (for example you get to summon a thing etc). Got to say, I like how the game feels challenging while not relying on levels. You can get great amulets that already hold certain spells, same for weapons and armour. If you can't delete every enemy, try to find a way to beat them. As there is always a way.

Well, there's more than one map....

Well, you get level 2 just from doing the tutorial.

Level 3 you can get just by completing the Beach Crypt and a couple other things.

Level 4 will require you to complete quite a few quests and encounters.

so on so forth.

I just hope they are not thinking that there is only the starting area...
I got lvl 3 in 90 min, but it took a lot longer to hit lvl 4, and lvl 5 seems to be taking a long time compared to the others. I've also got some quests bug out on me that I can't complete when I went back to camp out of combat while there was commotion happening around me.

Yeah, this is why the people that are complaining about the game ONLY having 12 levels are so funny.
