Spear and Sheild fighter?

Can anyone give me a quick bit of advice? Ide just like to know whether a duelling fighting style fighter with spear and shield would work ok? Im really quite lost and trying to come up with a character im happy with.

You can definitely use a spear and shield as a fighter. That sounds a lot like what I'm doing. I'm using that for my Paladin simply because I can't find a better weapon for him lol. I really want like a longsword but I've been stuck with a spear since the beginning of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game

Dueling fighting style with polearm master is completely viable, and on a paladin I'd say its one of his better options for more smites while having +2 AC.

Would also like to know if there are finesse 1 handed spears in the game? Might make sense to make a dex fighter instead if so. Just want to make sure im going in the right direction for spears.

All 1-hd weapons work with dueling (at least should, if it's not bugged).

If you wield a versatile weapon in 1 hd with nothing in the other the game will force you to use it 2 hd. This is an issue we've been asking Lariat to fix for years.

To clarify, if I use a spear that has the versatile stat with a shield it will still count for dueling? It having that stat doesnt exclude it from the bonus?

yes shield and spear is a valid dueling combo. Consider pariing it with the shieldmaster or polearm master feat when its time to pick one.

Typical spear build that deviates from GWM take sentinel/polearm master for insane batllefield control. Put this on a battlemaster to lean even heavier into control, doesn't pair great with barb since to maintain rage you have to attack/be attacked every round.
