Why is my Grymforge empty? (possible Act 1 spoilers)
I've been reading online about all these npc's and all these choices, and quests in the Grymforge area, but there is not a single person in the area for me. Also, I didn't realize that Nere could actually be alive. I showed up and his body was dead...I looted his head and that was it.

When I first got to the area, I did port away, did that bug it out maybe? Or did some choice I made somewhere cause all the cool content I read about to not be there? I honestly can't even access most areas of the zone it seems.

Any insight would be helpful, thanks!

As this topic is only relevant to similar problem to me which I was able to google up, I'll post here:

It seems like a bug. There is time limited quest, yes, but no matter if I complete it on time or not, after a long rest Grymforge become empty - its only a few monsters in specific area
mimics, which are not "npcs" at the moment, but everything else is empty. I didnt noticed it the first time (since I never knew what to expect in this area), but figured something wrong after explored almost whole location. But after I loaded older save and progressed through location again, after a long rest NPCs are gone again. Dont know what to do at this point :(

While I totally appreciate your response and investigation, I have to wonder if this is really a bug? I feel like something this game-changing would be all over the forums as it literally deletes an entire area of Act 1 for players.

Maybe I'll bump this thread a few times today to see if anyone else chimes in. These forums move FAST, so I'll try to keep it relevant. Thanks!

bumping a few times today - sorry!

This has happened to me. Before there were npcs everywhere, even a vendor and a scrying eye, now everything is gone. Not one single NPC.

Same. I literally got there, talked to like two npcs and decided to finish up the mushroom place storyline. When I got back to grymforge, everyone was dead and I was supposed to get the nera's or whatever her name was head. Completed the entire are without talking to any npcs lmao.

This happened to me today.
I was at the Nera part with the rocks to clear... Didnt do that, went back to mushroom area to level.

But not before I decided to go up the elevator despite the warnings of "the level is higher than your party, tie up loose ends etc". Just to look around quick.

I *THINK* its because I went up that elevator and maybe it then made the nera questline null and void... I hope nothing else going forward is messedup.

Same thing. I simply done a long campfire once and bam - no npcs....

Nere and the gnomes are trapped under rock with poisonous gas, leaving the area or taking a long rest will kill them.

"When I first got to the area, I did port away"
I've never touched EA and this is also my first playthrough so take this with a grain of salt but maybe entering the area triggered the timer for the quest/area and so when you left/rested it advanced to a fail-state?

Hey all, I can confirm this is not a bug.

There are missable storylines in the game and this is one of them.

Basically be careful not to fast travel away from Grymforge, the first you arrive.

A party member even warns you not to leave.
You can take long rests as much as you want, just stay in in Grymforge.
Otherwise you fail: Missing Boot, Save the gnomes, and the Nere's head, quests.

Allright now go to sleep y'all

I left as soon as I got there too but he didnt die until I long rested which- I mean. Why the hell would I save my enemy? It was a weird quest.

I had just teleported to camp, didn't leave the area, to switch out a party member, and when I came back, everyone was gone in mine, as well. So add to the list, even though long rest works, do not teleport to camp.

I also had this issue yesterday, tried to complete all the quests without teleporting and resting in camp, but after killing Grim.... everyone dissapeared again.

My experience different but similar. Had a massive fight against Nere and a load of Duergar, took a solid hour but I won it. Used up all my consumables so long rested and/or fast travelled away (can't remember exactly in what order) and when I came back the whole place is empty. At first I thought it was intentional, then I was like: why would the shop be gone? And the cow? And why when I click this door did I suddenly get a cutscene of a gnome when there are no gnomes to be seen?

Guess I'll have to reload the save and do the fight again, so that's like three hours of progress wasted.

Man, i found the path to the forge first after those bulls cleared the rocks. I just kept going and going, passed over Nere area. Get to the forge, look around, then decide to go back and do Nere questline first, and everyone is dead! I did go to camp to try shadowheart again, but she sucks(at least for my playstyle) and went back to camp again to get rid of her. So I'm guessing that caused enough time to pass for everyone to die. Reloading from before all that, around 3 or 4 hours to redo.
