Baldur's Gate 3

Auntie Ethel - How to fight her
Spoilers of course.

But in her cave, how do you beat her?

She's level 5 right now and all my guys are level 3.

None of the previous beta tester methods seem to work. (You can't seem to sneak up behind her, surprise her and then smack her with everyone from behind.)

I get that me being level 3 doesn't help, but wandering if there's a way to do it.

Or maybe I just need to come back later?

I'm on normal difficulty by the way.

Would appreciate any help.

Current party is:

MC - Rogue/Assassin

Shadowheart + Wyll + Lae'zel

EDIT: My chosen answer is based on the best method when you're weak and you want the best drop possible that gives you the chance to grab a +1 increase to one of your core stats.

Once you're inside, position everyone behind the door in a line. Now get your rogue to trigger the fight then Dash, Dash, Dash all the way back to the door. Close the door. Wait for the witches to AI break and position near the door clueless.

Now comes the fun part. Open the door. Fire all your bows and crossbows at the witches. Close the door. They can't see you anymore and don't want to approach you because they're ranged combatants. You can easily win by opening and closing the door on your turn.

-Magic missiles to get rid of her clones round 1. Also only the real one will have any debuffs.

I just stacked 7 or 8 black powder barrels around her in her house ( she was still friendly after you first speak to her at her swamp hut), did a sneak ranged attack on her so she would change into the hag form and to go into fighting mode. Then I shot one of the barrels with a fire arrow and with all the barrels exploding at the same time, it killed her in 1 shot lol

It’s significantly harder to fight her on her lair.

Easier if you stab her earlier in the game (during her introduction when you enter her home)

You can push her into the water with a warlock, although that is very tricky due to positioning.
On a sidenote: be careful with the push of eldritch bolt. I shot the githyanki leader into the chasm and could not recover her items, one of which Lae'zel wants to find the creche. On the plus-side: eldritch bolt pushing can be fun and lethal when it works.

I just tried this. The fight lasted about 25 mins, because I had a 25-30% chance to hit her most of the time. But I did it! No one on my party dropped any HP either!

You don't need magic missiles.

A normal attack will do the trick.
Don't.

I think that would deny you her hair, which is the main reason you want to do this fight. It gives you a permanent +1 bonus to any ability score. I have had 20 Strength since lvl 4 thanks to it.

I just pushed her off into the center using the force tunnel skill from the illithid tree

magic missile makes this fight a joke. When she spams illusions just use your 100 percent hit of magic missiles to make all the illusions go away.
heh Aug 5, 2023 @ 9:25pm
Just bring poison resistance elixirs and magic missile her illusions.
Binky Woodsworth Aug 5, 2023 @ 9:25pm
Throw void bulbs so it drags her off the edge. They can be used to remove multiple duplicates, too.

magic missiles you just need one attack to get rid of ALL her clones, normal attacks you need one attack for EACH clone...
