Why does perception suck?
The people who have to disarm traps, find creatures and generally be sneaky.. can't find pressure plates in a room.. just had someone explain it all out to me.. my 20 yr old son.. and I'm changing class now :D

Works fine for me, but I play a ranger and I have 20 dex at level 4... so I rarely miss a perception check... when I do Shadowheart tends to get it.

Perception works off your wisdom.

LOL, that's because shadowhart has high wisdom score, which perception is based off of in t he game. It doesn't use dex at all. Even if you have high wisdom you can still fail perception checks. But you definitely not going to do well if your wisdom is low.

It turns out perception expertise is not optional on a rogue

Also a ranger so I don't have crap wisdom... its 14, so +2 plus proficiency being drow. So +4 total right now.

Can somebody explain to me why only Barbarians and Rangers get Perception?

Why do I care? I enjoy playing Rogues. Astarion is ok, but just ok. The one I rolled has Insight, Persuasion, Deception, Sleight of Hand, Acrobatics, and Performance. No Perception. Detect Traps much? Nope. Straight Wisdom check. Even with 16 Wisdom they're blind as a bat. WT actual F?

Disarming traps and picking locks are long-time core mechanics for Rogues, alongside Sneak Attack. So 1/3 of the reason for having one has to be outsourced to another character. Pop quiz, how many Barbarians and Rangers are there among the recruitable NPC's? I have yet to encounter one.

There is no sub-race that gets Perception. There is no background that gets Perception. There is no way to build a Rogue that starts with Perception. You also can't see the kits on the character creation screen so I have no idea if I'll ever get the option to select a new skill.

Somebody please tell me that's a thing.
During creation you can pick a few proficiency options. Or roll an Elf, they get it by default.

at least on tactician the DC to see pretty much every trap seems to be like 15 minimum
and the detection radius is like 10 feet which is ridiculously low

The option to do that is very inconspicuous. It should force you to pick skills, in an unskippable way, instead of defaulting to not having it.

Restarting after 3 hours of play. That's annoying.

Respec... you don't have to restart unless you are race changing.

They really REALLY need to show you the full kit and all the stuff you can choose from as you level up on the class selection screen, not just what you start with.

The game handles traps poorly and there are a lot of them. First of all, it's not that uncommon for me to have all 4 characters fail a perception check on the same trap. Then when you do spot the trap...no option to pause? What the ♥♥♥♥, why not? Because the pathing in this game is terrible and if you don't immediately yank your party's chain backwards someone is gonna step on it. The game badly needs the options that BG2 used to have 'pause on X'. I know a lot of them don't apply for TB combat but pause on trap is must have. Formations would also help...this is stuff that was requested day 1 of EA and they refuse to do it. Instead we get genital choices and vitiligo sliders.

If you found withers and talked to him he will be at your camp. Repels are 100 gold rezzing a dead character is 200.
