Anyone else disappointed by the hirelings?
When they were first announced I thought it'd be a "create a party" sort of thing where you could generate unique characters. Then I found out they were pre-mades and I hoped we'd get a fairly broad selection so we'd have a lot to play with. At least a dragonborne one. Now I see you get a small collection of fairly drab and uninteresting characters to choose from.

At this point, why wouldn't I stick with the standard companions? Why did Larian interpret, "We'd like to be able to build a custom party without having to run four instances of BG3." as, "We'd like a collection of uninspired pre-gen characters that someone, somewhere, will be a fan of out of spite."

Yes, very weird that they did not implement that as it was something that was much asked for and those hirelings are not custom at all.
Quite falsely advertised that it would be implemented into the launch version and we get just the hirelings.

I'm honestly very disappointed that there seems to be no way at all to have more dragonborn in my party than... myself. I get the race is rare, but come on there's multiple Giths, Tieflings and Half-Orcs I could have in my party if I so desired. I really really hope there's going to be changes made to that in the future, because while I still love the game so far, my enjoyment has gone down like... 10% knowing I can't even get close to having a party like I want. Just having one Dragonborn alongside me would've been great :(

Now I'm wondering if they did this on purpose so you'd feel compelled to play with their intended snarky edgelord companions...

Yes, custom ones would have been nice, even better if it went beyond what you can pick as a player. I would love a team of undead, but there is a limit to how much work a dev team can put into a game.

Well, there is a way to get a fully custom party.
But it's clearly a workaround aka Larian failed us in this regard:

Ya know...you might have a point.

I mean, I'm not even asking for undead or anything outside of what the character creator already provides. It could've been as simple as letting us pre-gen characters for the hireling screen. Or just having a button on the hireling page that says 'Create Character' and then it uses the pre-existing character creator.

I wonder if this would've been very difficult compared to the system they already gave us.

Also disappointed with this. Larian did not hear the fans at all on this one. Hopefully a modder can fix this.
