Can I change race ingame or is there a mod?

As someone who chose the wrong race to fit my build and discovered it too late I've looked around a lot and haven't found any way yet. Keeping an eye on the nexus mod community in hopes.

Yeah I fell into my build as I played and now I really wish I had chosen a different starting setup but I just can't, a mod would be fine doesn't have to be in game

Just with the Mask of Shapeshifting but can't edit it.

Useful for say sneaking into a Goblin's bed. I mean camp.

Why? You can even do that on tabletop. You can retire/kill your character and start with a new one

If you find one, please share xD It would be nice to change races of the companions to make things more interesting (like a band of 4 dwarfs or tiefling seems epic)

Almost a year late to the party, but: you could create a local multiplayer game if you have to controllers, and then just retire your original character.
If you don't have two controllers, change all settings to minimum, and launch two instances, join your own game, and that way take over the save. You can hang the old character in the wardrobe.
I don't know how this would act with the quests though, especially romances.

Use the disguise spell is the closest you can get. The good thing is that when you use it, you get whatever racial traits or attributes they have.

I blame wizard of the coast (or whoever owns DnD), Larian's last game had a mirror that allows you to change your character - there's no way their next game would be missing such an amazing feature...
