Does it still hold up after act 1?
Way back with DOS 2 Larian only allowed people to play the first act. When the game fully released people found that the later acts (3 and 4 in particular if i remember right) had rather serious degradation's in quality compared to the first act.

With BG 3 they've only allowed people to play the first act in EA. I know its only been a couple of days, and that its a long game but are there signs they may have made the same mistake?

I'm very interested in getting this game. But if i'm going to commit to a game that takes 100 hours to finish and has a huge amount of replayability i want to know if the longer it goes the less enjoyable it becomes.

Hmm, good to have a heads-up, better dig out my trusty old "autobackup a folder to zip every 30 minutes" powershell script. Haven't had to use that since buying SnowRunner before they fixed it up :-)

They may have just fixed that in the last hotfix. Saves were limited or something in size if i'm reading it right. They've made it unlimited now. Maybe it'll fix some of the character and quest-line bugs? no idea. Keeping a look out. I'm pretty close to buying it to be honest.

If you're not a starchy old traditionalist, pining for a Baldur's Gate 1 remake with modern graphics (like me), you'll probably love it :-)
Even I'm enjoying it plenty. Just don't expect perfection.

im scared the "polish" will diminish in later acts. it was the case for dos2 at launch
been taking my sweet time combing a1 as much as possible.

This game very Polish, the developer's aunt's cousin was named Czeszchsekshoslowszhcich.
Very nice, Poland strong.

Act 1 - Amazing
Act 2 - Decent
Act 3 - Terrible

The city just feels kind of dead, in Act 1 and Act 2 if you did whacky outlandish things the NPCs always responded and reacted to it in some way.

In Act 3 no matter what you do everyone just gets on with whatever they were coded to do and it feels forced.

Very on brand of Larian though to make Act 2 / Act 3 terrible for all their games.

It's fine by me. All 3 acts hold up on their own, but act 3 does have more bugs, that is true. But the city itself is so much better than the DOS2 one that it's not even close. I guess the problem of DOS2 still remains technically, but every single act has so much more to offer and is so much better than those of DOS2 that this problem is not as noticeable. I mean Act 1 of BG3 is probably 3-4 times bigger than Act 1 of DOS2. If you forget about dividing the game into acts they all have a pretty good flow to them with the latter parts being more janky.

I'm really reading controversial opinions about act 2 and 3.

Some people say act 3 is dense and full of things to do
Other people say it is rushed and feels terrible.

Heeelp.

Act 3 feels dense to me. There are a ton of things to do. Other than small encounters, there is a huge quest line that leads all around the city, the ending of every companion quest, and a bunch of small dungeons that all look great. It ends up being up to preference, but for me, the city never felt rushed. Less polished, yeah, there are bugs. But not even close to 2.5 empty streets of DOS2 city with 2.5 half-baked quests.

Its hard to say. At a guess (and i dont own it so take it with a grain of salt) It may be that people not liking act 3 may be rushing it. And i get that, its the final leg of a 100 hour game. They may just want it to be over at that point. Either to start a new character and experience a different way of playing or go do something else entirely.
For myself i tend to push through the story on a first play through and then nitpick and comb through on the second. I'm sure there are others like that, particularly if the story is engaging. So i may very well be someone that finds act 3 lacking.

True. I have a feeling some of those people dont even know about half the things that can be done there. Act 3 is pretty big. I think Im there for 10-15 hours already and I just got to the sewers. And I'm not exactly reading every book and enjoying the scenery either, all those hours are high-quality content.

Front loaded Act 1.
Classic Larian.

I think Act 2 holds well but Act 3 is a major drop. A bunch of rehashes from earlier games. While I appreciate the occasional tribute, this felt lazy. Not to mention all of the scenes are done in-engine, they didn’t bother to render them properly like the intro.

Act 2 went underground then I was at the tieflings, by that I avoided all of the mountain pass, which I'm not going to waste, guess another 10hrs for me.
