Game combat is too hard
Finding the combat gameplay to be too hard with fights including far too many enemies at the beginning of the game. No matter what I do in the goblin camp I end up fighting the goblins in huge numbers and do not have the ability at level 3 to manage such fights. I am doubting the Dror Raggagaggag fight can be handled well even at max level. (Though a well placed fireball might help).

Are you running around Solo? The game is intentionally designed to be played in a group with companions or IRL friends. If you play Solo without companions, you are making the game for yourself harder by choice.

Hmmm... it depends, if you spawn right at the goblin camp it will be harder, but if you advance slowly from the south and try to take each goblin for each time, you will have a better time. You can also reach lvl 4 and then be more prepared for that particular fight

Try on story-mode first. Once you have enough game knowledge the difficulty will be a bit trivial.

They over did it with the combat because they want you to use the environment to kill enemies more than your actual abilities.

You want to surprise enemies with stealth mechanics and early positioning. Throw stuff at them to get advantages. Oil/Acid/Water, other things.

Which is fine, except for the fact that if you don't do this for nearly all encounters you're going to have a very hard time with the game and it ends up leading to a homogeneous combat experience.

If you try to brute force it, you won't make it. But you can persuade the hell out of them, if you have a CHA guy with the skill.

I talked my way past the guards and killed the leaders individually. Also, in the blighted village there are some ogre who you can recruit to help you fight for a few battles (if you have the coin) which helps. It requires a lot of tactics and luck sadly. I was level 5 before I came back and wiped out the camp. Try going to a different location and finishing other quests first.

level 3 might be a bit low for goblin camp. I would do it at 4. As for how I usualy deal with the camp is:
- go into exterior of the camp peacufully, then go up to terrace, kill every sleeping gobo there with Karlach, blow up entrace and enter through there.
- sneak to the place where Gobo king is, leave one archer or mage up top the rest place behid boss throne. Then enter turn based mode and unload everything at him. Once boss down other stagler pose no threat as they can be oneshoted by probably any attack.
- then rest and deal with Minthara
- save Halsin and ask him to join me
- attack priestess rut from behind
- once dealth with any straglers inside, I go back outside the way I came and kill everyone using height advantage

did they somehow change that since early access? I didn't find that to be true at all.

Play on story-mode. It's there for people not that good in games such as this, absolutely no shame choosing that difficulty!

I suppose I should supply more detail. I did not spawn right at the goblin camp. I gained entrance by beating up the guards in front but because I convinced them first I was with them I didn't trigger any fights inside immediately but the goals of the goblin camp seem to all boil down to fights with large numbers of them. I somehow doubt story mode would help with the numbers thrown at you.

Dumped charisma with this first run through as a Gith Fighter. Probably should have gone with a more charismatic character knowing Larian. As it is cha of 8 is a tough call for persuasion rolls once the special power is used up.

Story-mode is extremely easy and you can just blunt force your way. It would absolutely help. Also, why aren't you doing more exploring to get to level 4?

seems like a breeze to me compared to divinity 2

"- go into exterior of the camp peacufully, then go up to terrace, kill every sleeping gobo there with Karlach, blow up entrace and enter through there." I killed the sleepers 3 at a time. But could not find a way to blow up the cracked stone. I guess I need to look more carefully for explosives?

I ended up at the camp by exploring the map. There was not much else to do that I could find after the bugbear cave.
