Clerics also get planar allies which are really cool but imo they aren't nearly as good as the land druid since it gets the recovery. The spore druid is kind of like a necro and it spreads which makes it the best for that desire. Necro functions similarly but they get proficiency mods so thats def the top of the totem.
there are just very few of them
To that batch of undead you can add your preference of Elementals and the basic familiars. Not to mention the quest based pets (Scratch, Owlbear ect) and the ghouls from the Thayian book.
Oh, if you want to go summon crazy, Shadowheart can also Animate Dead and I know there is another circlet of animate dead in Act 2, which can be worn by whoever. So thats another 6 + 1.
Some napkin math indicates a Necromancy focused party (assuming balanced party ie not 4 necromancers) could run 14 skeletons and several elementals and several more lesser elementals.
I've been running 8 skeletons with my party and they average over 10 dmg a round, each, every turn, having burned only 1 lvl 5 wizard spell slot and 1 cleric lvl 5 spell slot. Thats like casting a fireball that hits 3 creatures each turn.
the best summoner is cleric. you pick any cleric, light adds reactions to help your allies or summons, your channel divinity doesnt count as an attack, nature, trickery, life all of those are pretty good sub classes. i think you can give extra accuracy to some characters.
to be a cleric summoner you summon free of concentration spiritual weapon, animate dead, create undead, and orb of fire (this one has concentration). you cas on yourself sanctuary. and your action is support people, healing concentrating on bless or impose disadvantage.
all of the undeads and spiritual weapon are concentration free. and they scale by summoning several things from a single corpse or more powerful undeads. everything while nobody can target you, they can still hit you with aoe spells so be careful, but you are anoying af.
Without taking into account Elementals (lesser and greater), or "Us" or other random things any caster can summon:
At level 9, a Necromancy Wizard can Summon 2 Ghouls *OR* 4 Skeletons/Zombies. Not both.
At level 9, a Spores Druid can summon 4 Fungal Zombies, 3 regular Zombies, a Dryad, *and* a Woad.
do necromancers only have skeletons and zombies?
nothing bigger or more unique?
On top of that everyone can do lesser summons like kitty cats, either via their class or via items.
