Wyll bind pact weapon/pact of the blade

Could someone explain this a bit? Seems to be working I have him with a +1 rapier. But these 2 abilities seem redundant?

With the pact of the blade his weapon scales with charisma instead of dexterity. Thats pretty strong and u can make every weapon u find scale with charisma in that way. That means he can wield everything with that pact. If u want wyll also slay in melee thats a good option. The pact of the chain is more like a pet utility option and the pact of the tome is a more spell focused option. Hope i could help.

They do separate things. One summons a weapon of your choosing, the other makes an existing weapon a Pact weapon.

So if you want Wyll to use a +3 Greataxe or something, you can equip it and then bind it so that he gains proficiency and uses his Charisma.
