It's not in the game bc it isn't a thing in 5e D&D.
Then again there are other things in this game that make this combat more than functional for melee combat. The combat opens up the further you progress. At lv 5 melee classes get a second attack per turn for example.
tbf flanking is not official ruling in 5e - its an optional rule
Then maybe you should play those games. D&D ruleset maybe is not for you, Baldurs Gate games were always set on these rules and flanking was not in BG1, BG2, and BG3.
You could create mod for that, otherwise you shall play another games where is this essential (according to your words) option.
I've never seen anyone run a 5e campaign without flanking being in the game.
Those saying it's not a 5e feature is wrong.
It's an optional feature, yes. But it is a 5e feature. It SHOULD be in the game. Or at the very least be an "Optional" rule.
