is this a bug ? i got the lantern, but it's broken and no use

If you want a larger area you can also use the daylight spell and cast it on one of your characters. Daylight provides a very large area and protects you from the shadow curse.

if you talk to the fairy at all about releasing her, she commits suicide for some reason.

may be a bug, but when i found her, i just ignored her and got the lantern fine.

I also got broken one, I used torch, and later I got a working lantern, but I don't remember where, I think you just need to progress with the story.

Ok, I may be in a unique situation with my play through. So my story is progressed far enough, I fought the spider guy but to get victory I used thunderwave to push him off a cliff. So can't get the lantern from him anymore. I'm pretty sure I'm stuck without it. Any advice on how to move forward?

Just run through it and tank the high shadow areas. Go to the tower. There is another moon latern there. You aren't hard lock yet.

In my playthrough, I quickly met a spider-man-drow, killed him and took his lantern. So I didn't notice any super strong shadow curse areas

What's funny is I have the opposite problem. I came in overland and was pretty chewed up when I stumbled across them. Didn't know how vital said bad guys were, so when I was given the opportunity to nope out, I took it... and evidently soft-locked myself because there's apparently no second chance or second option to get a moonlamp. For what it's worth, I stumbled across them at the ambush site, but I hadn't met the folks who'd help conduct said ambush yet so I had no idea.

There are multiple lanterns you can get. Atleast 3 of them can be found in the zone with the shadow curse, i know alot of people say they are soft locked because they killed or let the drow pass but you can get a moonlantern before even ending the shadow/dark lands zone. if you go to the under dark you can find a broken lantern which can be fixed with pixie dust which is also found in the under dark
