infernal iron bug with karlach's quest

my quest journal says i've found infernal iron & to talk to dammon. i don't see this iron anywhere in the inventories, & when we talk to him, he just tells us he needs it

Not much help us players can give you. Try retracing your steps, current infernal iron locations in act 1 are Blighted Village, Shattered Sanctum, and Zhentarim Hideout.

This happened to me too, I've had a few items go missing. Hopefully a bug they can iron out, and thankfully (so far) hasn't happened to any unique quest items.

Had this happen on my campaign too. Does it require Karlach in the party? Because we've got 4 player characters

If you got arrested make sure to pick up your items from the equipment chest and evidence chest

I had all infernal iron in my playthrough but they disappeared after Karlach consumed the first one. I just realized this after hours in and don't have a backup save to try and replicate so I'm also stuck.

He used the first one to repair her heart for me, but doesn't recognise any further irons we collect, might need to wait for him in baldurs gate.

OH I FIGURED IT OUT. When you speak to Dammon with Infernal Irons in your inventory, he will have the option "I think I found a material you could work with..." where he makes you a Flawed Helldusk heavy armor piece for each piece of Infernal Iron.

I got crow-brained over this and just made the set without realizing it uses up Infernal Iron. I've yet to figure out if there's other Infernal Iron sources out there, but until then you may want to avoid this dialogue option for Karlach's quest.

Wow this is stupid af and literally shouldn't be a thing... they should give you some kind of indication first warning you, or even tell you WHAT THE FCK 'MATERIAL" your even giving him, like they didn't even tell me what I was giving I just figured it wasn't anything gamebreaking or important to quests and would only be beneficial, so i didnt bother checking. wow how stupid. really stupid. I care more about the karlach questline than i do this junk i'll replace soon.

The more I think about the depths of how stupid this is, the more I realize the stupidity level is incalculable.... This idiot KNOWS we need that metal for Karlach... since he already used it once and started an ENTIRE questline for it, knows its vital for her heart, and STILL doesn't warn you or mention anything about it even being "infernal metal" ? wtf even is that... I could understand for those of you who didnt recruit karlach or even start this questline him not saying anything but for those of us who have? WHAT? god i'm so annoyed because i've been searching for it in my inventories for an hour cause i KNEW I had some, confused why it was gone, and was hours later into the game i found this post, now it's not even a simple reroll of my save game without losing considerable progress.. super annoyed

I have karlach in camp, I told her about the smith who might help. I have 4 infernal on me and talking to Damon without karlach with me.. the night they are supposed to have a celebration party for my party in the grove. he doesn't mention the iron at all... guess I need karlach with me.

I had the same bug. I had it in my inventory and Karlach in my party but I couldn't give it to Dammon, he just said "have you found it yet" or something. I tried reloading the save, long resting and even selling him the infernal iron piece. Didn't work. Then I just quit the game and reloaded the save, then I got the new line "I have the infernal iron you need."

So try quitting the game and reloading the save. Helped for me

There is a ♥♥♥♥ ton of iron you get in game... Using 1 isnt a big deal.

I researched this.
If you meet Dammon WITHOUT Karlach *IN DIALOGUE RANGE* you CAN give him infernal iron (which he briefly mentions *BEFORE* dialogue choices).
If you have Karlach in dialogue range, you will not unlock crafting dialogues before you give him infernal iron for her quest.
Tried it all angles I could and so far that's how it worked for me.

There is enough infernal iron in the game to both fix her and get the "special" items after fixing her I still have 3 pieces in her inventory from various locations in act2

This is not helpful if you don't have all that at hand and you don't dive into cesspool of metagaming just to learn this, especially if you don't suspect this at all, since game does alright job at convincing you that infernal alloy is of a great value.
