Hotfix breaks game?
My game was fine yesterday. Not running mods as many aren't even patched for the full release anyways. Made sure mods gone, old saves gone, etc. and so forth. Game patches today, and now I'm re-downloading and re-installing the game after being almost done with Act I.

Even though I do not have a console at the moment, I had cross-saves turned on. With that feature being disabled from the hotfix directly I was getting an error that the game needed X file to load the start menu.

Just a heads up if others are having the same issue since the hotfix but not yesterday when all was well. Also a heads up to the devs. I saved my saves. Hopefully they'll work with a fresh install or so help me god.

I have a similar issue. the start menu won't load. I tried uninstalling the game and installing it again and repair it but nothing works.

I had to delete the cache files along with everything else. The cache files might work alone, but I did a reinstall before I found the cache so "oh well" I suppose.

Cache files are located under %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Launcher\Cache
Just type that in your file explorer bar (not the search bar, but the other one up top).
Delete everything in there. Try game start again. Should work now.

Save your save games before you do this. I have confirmed even though the error happened sometime after you've saved games and this hotfix, that the saved game will load without issues.

I'm not modded of course, so if you've used any mods since release, uninstall those or disable them before clearing the cache out to be sure it doesn't have a conflict.
I deleted the cache files also but it still won't start. I think my issue started when I tried to download 1 mod for the full game earlier today from Vortex , but I deleted the mod and Vortex since I thought they were causing a start up menu issue but I still have the issue lol I'll try to uninstall BG3 now that vortex and the mod is uninstalled to see it if works

With that uninstall, also just delete anything that's associated. With a fresh install it'll remake any folders that were necessary.

Vortex has a "purge mods" button too. It's one way to completely remove them from anything game associated. I was modded in EA, so purging fixed that, but the game just constantly was looking for something that wasn't there anyways (post hotfix). Like I said, yesterday, game ran fine no issues.

It's a case of shruggy shoulders I guess.

I've been experiencing the same issue today. Will reverting to an older, pre-hotfix version fix the problem?
I found out on another thread. I still had profiles left from previous version of the game.
Go to :
AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles
And delete everything in there. It did the trick for me.
