I blame my ancient PC.
I am not using any mods in the game.
It has been particularly problematic at the huge, endless battle with Raphael at House of Hope, where it has happened a number of times now...
My system:
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, all updates installed
All drivers recently updated
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D
32GB DRAM, 20GB+ free while game is running
GPU: NVidia RTX 2080 Ti
Storage: both OS and game drives are PCIe4 m.2 SSD drives with plenty of space free.
All CPU, MB, GPU temperatures are normal: 50-60 degsC while in-game
So there is no system reason for this, it is an issue with the game software.
Most of the time, the enemy NPC just idles around for 10 - 20 secs and then it skips its turn, which makes combat rather boring at the moment.
I've resolved this by entirely uninstalling BG3 and fresh installing. Now I've played several hundred hours without issue.
